I very much hope the U.K. will embark on a similar upgrade/expansion program across all our armed forces as I suspect in the coming decades the world will become a much more hostile place....

Lol, look at the wedge tail fiasco....order 5/6 radars but only buy three planes, no chance any government will sort the forces out with what they require really.

Press release for the strategic defence review

We are enhancing blah blah blah modernising blah blah new kit blah blah lethality blah blah fantastic news blah blah.

In reality cut cut cut cut, let's rely on the US to plug it all up for us.

Poland increasing its armed forces, increases our forces.

Russia aren't going to roll tanks into our borders. Anything happening in Europe, we're only really a supporting force (training, surveillance, arms, humanitarian aid).

IMO our only real domestic threat - where we're unlikely to get much NATO support - is from Argentina making a ridiculous attempt to recapture the Falklands.

Tbf they are increasing defense spending to 3% of GDP. Not sure how it will be spent yet but I would like to see the army grow back to pre 2010 levels with the rest going towards the Royal Navy.

It will, but people have to be willing to pay for it. Higher taxes or lower spending elsewhere.

Within the current political landscape, I don't see how it would happen.

My fears with ATACMS is the parabolic arc the weapons takes might make it easier to intercept (it is a ballistic missile). To go its maximum distance its going to need to go to its maximum height and its going to appear on everyone radar.

Maybe that's why its taken so long, now that Russian air defence has been getting smashed by Ukrainian drones and storm shadow ATACMS might be practical now.

What would you hit with ATACMS that you couldn't hit with storm shadow?

Similar situation as the radars with the CTA 40mm gun that was meant to equip the upgraded Warriors (a decision that baffles me to this day) and the Ajax armoured vehicles. They signed a separate contract with the gun manufacturer, than perhaps doing it through the main contractors i.E Lockheed Martin and General Dynamics Land Systems, so seeing as the Warrior upgrade’s been canned after hundreds of millions were spent on it, and Ajax as far as I’m aware, may never enter service, then the MOD will be receiving several hundred auto cannons with nothing to install them on, as they didn’t negotiate any kind of cancellation clause when signing the deal for the guns.

Ukraine has run out of storm shadows - there hasn't been a single strike in the last month. The hope is tha US can supply a lot more ATACMS than the very small number of storm shadows that UK and France provided. Russian telegram channels claim a warehouse containing all remaining storm shadows in Ukraine was destroyed by a russian rocket, but that's probably just propaganda.
