About a Submarine?

I'm thinking about the bigger picture really, the long term strategic ramifications of this war which will persist for decades afterwards and how it'll shape our future, the possibility of a divided world, how future conflicts could arise from this, disappointed in our global leaders inability to find peaceful solutions. You're cheering about a Submarine where as I'm thinking how many soldiers will be dead this week from brutal fighting, murdered in horrific ways that you won't see or hear about. I wish I had your brain then I could just wave my flag and cheer about a Submarine.

Well if you’re going roll in to a neighbouring country like it’s 1939.. you better expect the result like it’s 1940s..

Peace only gets a chance without being at the end of a gun. Military defence means you’re not looking at the end of the gun.

Lots of dead. Putin orders people to their deaths.

Sorry but peace and pacifism are not related.

Why can't I embed Twitter posts anymore?
I don't know but I foresee the quality of the thread rising sharply xD (not aimed at you, just in general at the threads recent devolvement into Twitter spam).

If only unofficial Man of Honour Turn would come back and start giving us headlines C&P directly from his terminal again, it was amazing when this thread was getting the headlines ahead of social media and news sites :p

Hearing the Kilo also took a direct hit
While a submarine was ne threat to a country with no navy this will be a massive PR victory for Ukraine :D

What’s the estimated value of the sub and the ship?
Considering they don't have the ability to make them anymore: Priceless.

Luckily for everything el- oh nevermind Mastercard pulled out of Russia.

They don't seem to do so well against Storm Shadows/SCALP though there are varying reports as to what missiles were used here - most likely was Storm Shadows though.
I believe that Sevastopol is within Neptune range from Ukrainian territory.

It seems that Russia has been launching all sorts of missiles at Ukraine since the start of the 3 day special operation and although I'm no military hardware geek, doesn't the Kilo class carry missiles?

People have thought for decades that Russian air defence was some of the best in the world. I am guessing this has put some doubts into that.
In fairness, Russian air defence is upgraded Soviet air defence, and that's the same stuff Ukraine used to hold the entire Russian air force at bay while waiting on western air defences to arrive.

While it's proven quite ineffective against missiles and drones, it's performed well in it's intended anti aircraft role. But this just highlights the flaws with Russian procurement/doctrine as they thought incoming SAMs would be irrelevant if they would be continually advancing with air supremacy until they won.

Having said that, Russian systems have gotten better at intercepting missiles, or at least HIMARS rockets, but then they had to study a captured one (unexploded rocket not launcher) in order to improve.

It seems like it's being pretty effective against Russian expansion right now.
I dunno, seen a lot of videos of T-72s rapidly expanding...

There was definitely an opportunity for Russia and the West to reconcile after the USSR collapsed
We did, hence why if you look on Youtube you can find a Russian Pizza Hut advert from the 90s featuring Mikhail Gorbachev. Everything was going great until 2000 when Yeltsin was blackmailed into nominating a corrupt politician named Vladimir to be his successor.

Not normally as they're attack subs (for hunting other subs), but if I remember correctly they are trying to retrofit them to carry up to four Kalibir missiles, I remember it because they are launched via the torpedo tubes which sounded crazy to me lol. That's probably the upgrade the sub was in drydock for.

Not that it would really help Russia if they had finished it as their Kalibir supply is terrible and the missile is also trash haha.

This thread is for the Ukraine invasion. If you want to discuss historical conflicts, discuss it elsewhere :)

I've cleaned up the thread, please keep it that way

Doesn't matter how good a system it is, if you've used up all your rockets for offensive operations against shopping malls.
I would genuinly laugh out loud if they spammed all their S-300s in Air to surface mode because they knew they had loads in storage then went to get them and found a corrupt warehouse operator had sold them to Albania or something, how bad is it that that sounds like both a ridiculously farcical situation and a realistic Russian situation at the same time xD
