Was a rather portly gentleman due to medication, lack of exercise due to bad back and knee and poor diet. At the ripe old age of 56 I finally decided to do something about it, so far have dropped from 21 and a half stone (139kg) to 16 and a half (105kg), no real exercise just sensible eating. For my height and build, I would be happy at 15 stone, so a few more pounds to drop. I am visiting my friend Kim who inspired me to take this step, she is looking forward to seeing the new me in a few weeks time, am aiming to be 15.7 Stone (100kg) when I visit.

Didn't search first then?

Although, speaking as somebody who has dropped from 16st to 11st over the past year, I'm calling shenanigans on you dropping that much weight without exercising. I already ate sort of sensibly, but the weight only dropped off when I started walking 25-30km a day.

How many hours a day were you walking

I went from 23st 7lbs to 12st 7lbs over 18 months, the first few stone dropped off quite easily, I think carting that much weight around normally is enough extra calories burnt.. it wasn't until I was 16st did it become hard to drop.. then it was a case of more focus on diet (earning the nickname 'salad man') and also aiming for 15K steps a day and cycling weekends to get that last few stone off..

It's a shame (and quite shameful tbh) I put a lot of the weight back on (at least 8st! :eek) and starting to shed it again, although finding it much harder since I have damaged my foot (stupid accident!) which has taken 4 months and slowly healing, so light exercise only which is not helping!

That's a decent loss, congrats, I enjoy walking but depends on your back/knee as does swimming.
Alcohol is the demon I need to fight, being in the same age range

I have always been around 80kg, but my eating habits and excessive alcoholic beverages have put me at 105kg.

Not drinking unless it's the weekend, and even then trying to tone that down a bit. However, doing this before, eating normal (3 decent meals a day, no snacks, etc) and being sensible soon makes you lose weight. Just got to break out of those bad habits!

Were? I still am. 12 hour shifts, and it's not just walking either. Most of the time I'll be pushing a 250kg bed, even heavier when it's occupied, a wheelchair or lugging heavy medical equipment around too. I also walk to work, and that's up hill. An average work day will be 40k steps and 25km.

I just cut out the crap I was eating and lowered the portions, cutting out most carbs has helped a great deal.

I never counted my work shifts as exercise

But then again that was most likely why i used to weight 8st to 9st and after changing job i went up to 13st :(

The only problem with losing the fat is that none of your clothes fit you anymore, so you're constantly having to buy new ones. Charity shops are great for this.

Since my August posts in this thread, I’ve continued to consistently lose 2 lbs a week… half a stone in less than a month

Really chuffed and feeling strong, hurrrgh!!!

Edit: oops I posted this in two different threads :o

i was 21.5 stone in april 2022, today i'm 16.5 stone (so the same starting weight and current weight as you OP!). i did get down to 14st 13lbs in may but have put on about 1.5 stone since. thankfully for the last 2 months my weight has been the same so the rise back up in weight has stopped. i want to get to about 12.5 stone but below 14 would be good. did it mainly just through diet, low carbs high fat high protein. but i am more active than i was, feel so much better. gave away loads of clothes to the local barnardos.

Similar for me - I was generally no heavier than 80-85kg for around 20 years, and over the past 4 years I've allowed that to creep up to nearly 100kg. I still don't look fat and people are usually genuinely surprised when I tell them how much I weigh, and I've used that as some sort of weird internal justification to not do anything about it.

I've never been amazing at regulating my food intake (other than a spell of counting calories which was actually very successful - just boring) and so I used to go to the gym to balance it out with weight training. However in my new job I now commute for an hour a day (previously worked from home) and I also do German classes for 3 hours twice a week, so on the days I don't have classes I struggle to motivate myself to get to the gym. I need to get back to it because I'm starting to feel fat and scruffy.
