Hello!

I would like to request a recommendation on which motherboard to buy for the following processor: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D.

So far I have received two recommendations:

- ASUS ROG STRIX B650E-F Gaming Wifi
- ASUS ROG STRIX B650E-E GAMING WIFI

What do you think about these? Is there a better buy?

Thank you very much!

It depends what features you want.

I believe performance across them all is going to be very very similar.

They tend to differ on the IO (USB ports etc), PCIE slots and number and generation of M.2 slots. Pricier ones also can have better audio, though not sure my hearing would be able to tell :)

I have loads of USB devices that I like to have plugged in at a time and I tend to use multiple disk drives for video editing performance, I think for most users 1 or 2 drives is normally where they max out for example.

The Asrock X670E PG Lightning is the best value X670 Board and very well reviewed. It's what I'm going to buy for my next build with 7800X 3D.

Just taken another look at this and can't remember why I discounted it.

It's one of the few motherboards that offers both a front and rear USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 type-c options. Not a big deal, most people won't care, not seen these ports mentioned on a single review anywhere. It's something that I'd find nice to have though.

It can take 4x m.2 drives, though bit weird one of them is a Gen 3 slot.

Doesn't have WiFI (doesn't bother me) and doesn't have an optical SPDIF audio connector. I do sometimes use one but could live without it.

I know I'm biased but I just picked up the b650e asrock taichi lite. Got a good spec, optical out, wifi6e, gen 5 m.2, pcie5, usb 4 type c, 24+2+1 power phase. Check it out if you can. It is an atxe board size so something to be aware of. Other than that I know people rave about MSI boards. I avoided Asus this time round having previous Am4 boards from Asus.

I should get my Asus b650E Gaming E board this week with my AMD 7800X3D, nice upgrade from my old i5 2500k CPU . I'll let you know how it goes :) .
That’s one massive upgrade.

i5 2500K to 7800X3D is like going from an old fiat Panda to a Lamborghini.

Yep also RX480 to AMD 7900XT as well :). I was going to wait until the next Ryzen gen, but many games out there that I can't play until the upgrade, plus the AM5 socket gives decent upgrade path for the near future. So think I did the right thing.

:) .

I've got the same board, it's a decent choice at the price level with Q-code, ALC4080 audio, PCIe 5.0 and the PCIe quick release button.

Hi everyone!

I'm looking at AM5 build using 7800X3D, and I'm split between MSI MPG X670E Carbon WiFi and ASUS ROG Strix X670E-E Gaming WiFi and maybe Gigabyte Aorus X670E Master. Any thoughts or suggestions are much appreciated! Cheers!

MSI MAG X670E TOMAHAWK WIFI , MSI are offering £30 cashback would make it £250 looks pretty good offering

PCIE 5.0 and two SSD PCIE 5.0 slots. All three boards have these options, but I'm mostly curious about the reliability and customer service. I called up MSI and they were very helpful, ASUS was helpful, Gigabyte were closed for the day. I guess I'll deduct points from Gigabyte

I’ve never heard of any of the big brands having really poor customer service.

All brands have had some issues with their products and confusion around regional departments and the management there being in the wrong but often it’s fixed and people get their warranty honoured.

I don’t see how you can deduct points from Gigabyte, if it’s a national holiday where you live and someone starts yelling at you because they were at work, would you be happy or annoyed?

People in the middle east work Xmas day - would you want to take a work call on Xmas day if you lived in the west?

Be reasonable.

What I will say is that Gigabyte tends to have the most buggy or weird BIOS software for their motherboards which is why I won’t use their products but they aren’t per say bad.

ASROCK has had a more spotty support history and they blacklisted Hardware Unboxed for reviewing their products and finding subpar motherboards.

Then again, Nvidia also blacklisted Hardware Unboxed also for reviews of their products.

both companies have since not blacklisted HU due to community backlash.
