3090 To a 7900xt/x worth it?

Which part, AMD offer what he has stated, Nvidia need multiple programs. AMD software has much more control than Nvidia offer along with full monitoring of your system.
Calm down chap. No need for fanboi valiance here.

I'm not questioning the reason. Im stating its a terrible justification for the proposed change! Kind of like the final moments of convincing oneself it's money well spent.

Right back at you. He could maybe change for no much and get what he wants with a performance boost. There is still good value in 3090's so new warranty and the features he values. You had to come in with the Fanboi crap. Read what he wants and calm yourself down. £100 maybe to get what he wants with an upgrade in raster performance is not unreasonable. If he just said i am going to buy a 7900xt and has a 3090 just on performance yea it's not something i would do. In this climate £100 bucks with the correct deal and gets 20% performance and the features he values ain't to bad.

Just looking at the biggest second hand site he may be able to do a straight swap as prices are still high enough. So please do some research before you pipe in. I have already asked if he values dlss and ray tracing as apart from that AMD are better for what he wants.

  • Software, the amount of inbuilt software, That covers my needs without additional bloat
    • would not need msi afterburner anymore as its built in ( i undervolted)
    • Fan control ( i like a silent system)
  • I've not had a AMD card since 7990! ( i had 3 and they all died)
  • although my 3090 is powerful, some games 144+ is starting to struggle, i really do like a locked FPS thats solid not jumping from 200-100
  • untouched my 3090 bios lets my card hit 83c and just sit their, MSI afterburner is a must
  • At full load my 3090 is pretty noisy averages 1860 @ 1.2mv got this to 1860 @ 850mv which saves a lot of noise
  • I don't use raytracing
  • my card does not support rebar, new BIOS does, but this only has one BIOS so could easily get corrupted
Read that, forget brand loyalty and come back to me as that is all that really matters in this thread unless the op comes back and says otherwise. My advise is based on what he asked not AMD v Nvidia.

It's pretty clear that from his own stated requirements that AMD is the only way to go, IF he can find an upgrade path that's worth it. Nothing to do with fan-boisim, the reasoning given was sound, partiucarly with regards to software, as NV's looks like it's come through a Stargate from Windows Vista.

Indeed man, read what the op was wanting and if the money makes sense then i think it's doable, looking at ebay if i am allowed to put that in here no sure it might be a straight swap or not to expensive. Prices on the xt just shot up recently but Black Friday ain't to far away.

Christ.

Way to miss the point. Suggesting such a change to have 1 piece of software, instead of 2, is like wanting to change a car from 1 model of red car to another model of the same in a slightly different shade of red. I was picking fun at the expenditure justification and it was in no way a serious commentary on what he should do.

I think you are under estimating just how much 3090's go for second hand. If he gets the high side it's a free swap if he buys at the right time. We are not talking loads of cash we are talking a small amount for what he wants. You seem to think the swap is big bucks for an xt it's not. An xtx would be £300 to£400 but an xt might be close to nothing. 3090 are fetching close to £700 judging on ebay at the moment. A more reasonable price would be £600 but after looking at ebay i would say it's a good bit higher. If i can get my xt for £700 with starfield i am sure there will be deals at some point where he can make the swap pretty painless money wise.

So no i am not missing anything. It just depends on how important it is to the op and not me or you.
