Road Cycling

Will once again be attempting the Festive500 again from tomorrow. Think this will be my 8th year in a row, weather is looking favourable with some warmer weather over the next few days, although will be fairly lonely as my usual riding mates are out of the country for a chunk of the week.

Weather here is looking gash not that I'd be able to hit 500km but was hoping to get some miles in. It's the gusting winds that are putting me off!

bad i know :p
I think some people believe it to be a Zwift based activity tbh...

Last year was my best shot. Finally some time off around Xmas, I don't think it was too cold and I kicked off day 1 with 75 miles. Unfortunately, my Di2 then broke and it created too big a whole to over come.

This year, I don't think I over my cold well enough to bang in some big rides. I was going to start with a slow 40 miles today, but it's so wet and windy I opted for a slow 5k run instead. Next year maybe.

Yeah I don’t think some realise the stupid 500 didn’t actually allow indoor biking miles to count. I think they changed it due to covid and all that.

Got myself a tt bike, that I won’t post a pic of incase I get die hard road warriors after me , but it’s way to windy my end.. even for the winter road bike to be honest… fair weather me :p

It's still a really good goal to have if doing it on Zwift, obviously not as challenging as the real thing but still needs some focus. I've done it on Zwift for the past couple of years but am not 100% over covid from 5 weeks ago (nearly there) but my legs feel so heavy from the lack of cycling, it is like they have lost all their conditioning. I think I will do a F500 group ride every day over the next week and call that it.

Want to take advantage of the C2W Scheme, and got £1600 for now. I'm wanting to get a new gravel bike ideally and trying to squeeze carbon into the budget. Which one out of the below would you think is the one to go for? Or another option? Carbon isn't a necessity, but thinking i'll swap groupset before I swap frame.

or

both those bikes are only available in different sizes?

have you checked out planet x? normally good value.
I actually wasn't considering them from my initial looks as they weren't as good price wise. However, they do currently have 20% off which brings a couple of bikes into the equation. I really liked my old carbon Planet X road bike a while back, just was out of the price range on their Gravel/CX side.

Notably:

chunk off this atm

I've previously posted in here about goals, but decided to create a single thread to make it easier to track yearly review/upcoming goals

373/500 km done for Festive 500, running tomorrow then finish off with usual training Saturday and Sunday, low enough mileage to tick off even if the weather is pants.
Good effort again. I’ve not managed it since we moved further oop north. 500km round here is hard yards and the weather has been awful for all bar one of the days. I’ll tick it off on Zwift but it doesn’t count (apologies in advance if that upsets anyone but it’s true!).

Every year outdoors. Never easy but found since I've been doing cx it's a great endurance training block for the National champs. Although not going this year as it's in Falkirk, so will be using it for the last few races of the year. Made harder this year by a less than abiding rear brake caliper that needs a service.
