Well, if it does rain during the race, I think the whole thing will be mayhem.

Very much looking forward to it.

Something to think about. George and Lewis were matching each other in Q3, S1 and S2. In S3 George got a great slipstream from Albon which put him .280 ahead. Neither improved on the second runs. So technically minus the tow from Albon, George would have qualified 6th ahead of Lewis. The Mercs IMO are still not on RBR level. Wet or dry Max will gobble George up pretty quickly.

If the rain ends up being bad we know full well they will stop the race.

It is sad the direction F1 has gone with safety side being so over the top.

A good qualifying, but he's done next to nothing in that car for nearly a year.
His words should probably be "yeah, spot on".

Maybe this will be the start of some sort of fairytale turnaround, but what are the chances of that?

Villeneuve at times does come across as very bitter.

If you look at his F1 career excluding when he won championship he wasn't special he had been handed a top seat straight away.

Unfortunately it does look like MV again without rain.

Which is all the more damming for perez.

I was out at the cinema, sounds like I missed some action!

I agree with the above, if Russell got a tow then realistically he’s over performing slightly. I guess the McLarens are the only ones that may be able to challenge Max if it’s a dry race.

What the heck happened to Ferrari?

Ferrari have had zero pace all weekend, clearly the track just hasn't suited the car for some reason.

They weren't that great on pace anyway, struggling to manage tyre temperature, but the real bungle was putting them both on used tyres for the second run in Q2 when the track was fastest. Leclerc apparently had a brake sensor issue too but I don't think that changed much.

Vasseur said they didn't have any new softs to go out on in Q2

The tow in Q3 doesn't explain the much quicker times both Mercedes managed in Q2 though

The tow was crazy. Karun did that side by side showing the difference between one point earlier in the final straight and then near the end of it. They were both essentially level near the start, but Lewis had dropped back a good few metres by the end. Russell also carried a decent few more kph as well.

I think without that tow, George wouldn't have been on pole as his 2nd run only netted him P3 I think.

I do think George has a tenth or two on Lewis in outright qualy pace now. It's difficult to make a conclusion on that though. Is Lewis losing a bit of qualy pace with age or is George simply improving? He's still young and had the "Mr Saturday" name for a while. Would be interesting to see how George would do in the same car as Max or Leclerc in qualy. I suspect he'd be as good/fast as them on Saturday to be honest.

Going for a silly prediction which will probably be totally wrong as if it rains a lot anything could happen.

I reckon Russell will DNF, maybe Max too, and the top 5 will be Max (if he doesn't dnf), Norris, Piastri, Lewis and Alonso but not in that order necessarily.

I think this could be another Norris win potentially.

Ferrari look too slow to catch up with the top boys here from 11th and 12th unless rain totally causes mayhem and they get the strategy bang on.
