Intel Core Ultra 9 285k 'Arrow Lake' Discussion/News ("15th gen") on LGA-1851

Oh, well, having said that, if this is true, then its a 9800X3D for me...

That explains why Intel has been so quiet since Hallock said they were going to fix the performance, it's because the new firmware fixes nothing. Starting to get shades of 11900k again and it's promised mystical firmware updates that would fix the performance and never

I'll still give Hallock the benefit of the doubt for now, after all he did say the fixes required new firmware and new windows updates - so maybe the new bios doesn't do anything until Microsoft has released new windows updates as well

Yup, I think Intel will try and move on from this platform soon as they can and consign it to the past. I’m not sure the cyberpunk patch improvements are going to be a given across the board…

Exactly.

I'd been wondering why they have gone so quiet.

Despite intels claims otherwise, people seem to be concentrating blame on the architecture, in particular, what they moved off CPU to a tile. If that's the case, then the situation is not salvageable.

The 14900K doesn't really meet my requirements while the 9800X3D is a lot closer. It's a shame, but intel really have shot themselves in the foot with this one. Ooops, I am forgetting to give them the benefit of the doubt...! What I meant to say is that they have until the end of Jan.

It isn't an [totally] unsalvageable situation - I'd assume the issues like compatibility and crashing can be fixed, but they'll have to significantly discount the CPUs to where they are realistically with 1-2 generation old performance and probably dig up another architecture (like some kind of "Meteor Lake++") to flesh out the high end, the platform seems to fully support stuff like Hyper-Threading despite it not being present on Arrow Lake.

Oh, what I meant, really, is that it's unsalvageable for me. My measuring stick is that they have to get the gaming performance close to the previous generation or I won't buy one.

What does "fix performance" mean to you?

He just stated there was a difference between the reviews and what were they expecting. But most benchmarks are aligned with official numbers.

When the CPU is able to at least reach the performance Intel advertised in its slides, and better yet, beat the 14900ks

Outside of specific scenarios the 285K rarely bests the 14700K let alone the 14900K, a fair bit of ground to make up there.

I'd not be surprised if Intel even cancel the plans for Arrow Lake 'refresh' (200Mhz clock speed bump) and just go straight to Nova Lake. Though it's going to be a long 2025 as Nova Lake is estimated as 2H 2026.....

LGA-1851/Z890 will go the way of Z590 IMO, single generation boards. Just look at the premium boards, all full of stock for this time of year, madness. First it's cashback, next it'll be 50% off. I just feel sorry for anyone who bought into this platform, then again they should have done the sensible thing and waited for reviews!

Zen5X3D will reign supreme for so many years! Can't wait to get a 9950X3D when they're released :D

Those prices are insane!

Even if I had the money I would not be buying motherboards at this price.

No me neither it’s mental. I would be stunned if ASUS sell any! Feel sorry for the retailers too, be left with a load of stock they can’t shift.

Serves all the board makers right for sticking so many eggs in their Intel basket…

They all play a part, if resellers didn't buy them at the price they where sold at to them they would need to reduce the price.

People need to vote with their wallets and not buy them

I've seen discounts on Z890 boards already. I am sure there are more to come. Pro PC builders may be consuming boards, but I don't think there are many Z890 motherboards selling to enthusiasts. Let alone really expensive ones. intel have really messed this up. They have effectively handed the enthusiast market to AMD.

Well i side graded to it but we will see what happens when i drop a 5080 in it. Upgrade cost me nothing I just sold all the other stuff off from when i got click happy. To be honest I think intel will do a refresh If they cant fix problems if they dont those motherboard partners are going to be miffed. Maybe nvidia cpu may be the way to go
