Trading the stockmarket (NO Referrals)

AI is not a fad.
I prefer bubble as the term. Weed I don't consider a fad either but just blew up into a bubble on the expectation of policy changes in the U.S and human nature takes over. A narrative drives the fomo.
All new tech markets go through a bubble phase and then afterwards the companies have to prove their worth. AI I'm not sure that's actually happened yet.
Covid was interesting as involved different sectors too - anything related to being at home or vaccines. Moderna and Peleton being a few examples that are a fraction of their previous values today (Moderna down 90% from the peak and Peleton nearly 95%).

Bad time to start but you gotta start somewhere. You only lose money when you decide to sell...
yep this account was to get some skin in the game while i waited for the next crash (my timing is great lol)
to maybe use my vanguard cash but being 60 now my appetite for risk has plummeted, not selling up my 1k fun account just going to sell on a green (1 out of my 3) and play with it, that t212 screen is so addictive
btw us stock market is shut today for Jimmy Carter memorial

Does anybody have any recommendations for a SIPP provider ? are Invest engine any good ? they have zero % fees on trades it seems. Has anybody used them or others they would recommend, preferably with lowish fees. thanks

This will depend a lot on how much you want to put in it, how often, and your investment choices, etc. Can't really recommend anything without that info.

InvestEngine's support isn't great and their financial health doesn't inspire confidence even though your money would be protected.

Fixed fee best if you have a larger pot. Comparison tables on here.

I used Vanguard for a while, the platform was fine, but they've recently increased their fees for smalls pots, and their fees for large pots aren't competitive.
I'm currently switching to ii (interactive investor) because I like the idea of their flat monthly fee. So far they seem good but it's a bit too early to give a recommendation.
Hargreaves Lansdown are getting destroyed on TrustPilot for being slow at paying SIPP withdrawals, so I'd give them a miss until they sort that out.

Here's a link to give you a decent overview of the options:

Some platforms are running switching offers so remember to check for those.

My personal stuff ISA/SIPP is with AJ Bell.

I've used them on a personal level, and professional level. Also used Fidelity Funds network, Elevate, ABRDN platforms at professional level

Charges vary but there's not a lot in them if you take a longer term view.

A J Bell app is 1st class. Can't fault it.

oh the stock markets in the states are taking a day of in honour of jimmy carters passing.

I fuess that's one way to give a bunch of rich people a day off but no one else.

It's a shame about Vanguard.
I've used II for a few years now and never had a problem. Now owned by ABRDN is a put off but doesn't seem to have had an impact. I've moved family members from other platforms to II as they offer free family accounts.
Wouldn't touch HL personally.

US Employment data out today. Beat forecast and probably signals less chance of an interest rate cut. Markets like rate cuts so suspect the bears will be happy!

Still waiting for T212 to release their SIPP. Was supposed to be last year, but crickets. I think they've having real problems getting it off the ground.

I recommend freetrade especially for mid to large size portfolios, which most pensions are.

Would love 212 to release theirs.

I have used II for Stocks and Shares ISA but hate the interface, and recently trasnferred holdings to 212. THey normally have a SIPP offer so may go with them and transfer to 212 in the future if they ever release theirs. Financial adviser friend did recommend AJ Bell too.

Thanks for all the replies.

what other fads were their before Quantum

Weed
EV
Lithium
Uranium
Gold mining
Bit coin mining
AI
Quantum

I imagine there was a 4g fad too?
which fads made people money and which fads lost people money.

I mostly avoided them all considering them MEMEs
Companies couldn’t stop talking about “metaverse” not too long ago

Markets looking very red this morning, was hoping for some green after last week
Indices are lower than when I moved the last of my ETFs to cash at end of November. I'm quite happy I'm sitting on cash right now.

I think there's probably an opportunity in crypto-related stocks as it's the perfect vehicle for Trump and his cronies to enrich themselves and I'm quite sure they will avail themselves of that opportunity, but I want none of it as the fundamentals are nonsense.

Tempted to buy some Intel back if it drops much more.
