I think they were probably all ready to launch at the end of this month so had all the logistics planned for that. Then they decided to chill at CES.
 
The keeping silent routine only works if you have a good hand to play. Or if you are exceptionally good at bluffing. AMD are NOT good at bluffing, so let’s hope it’s the former.

So supposedly a 9070 non-XT with 2x6-pin power? Looks like they aren't even sure how much power these cards use, let alone if the cards officially exist or not.

Could mean in general that they are decently power efficient at stock clocks but then need tons of power to OC?
 
The only recent past I can think of where they could have improved performance late in a release moment was the 5600. I think the delays are last minute pricing and possibly release day changes.

AMD can't really counter the fake frame narrative so remaining silent is probably the best option. They are probably waiting for 5000 series benchmarks but the main thing is they know the pricing so can price their own cards competitively. For the vast majority of people, 2X frame gen is enough since you will need a 240fps+ monitor to get the best out of MFG 4X. I personally will go for the best card for sub £650. I refuse to pay £1000 for any card, no matter who makes it.

Yeah it seems a few points go to this week for an announcement. If retailers have these units in stock they wont want them sitting there taking up space unless they get some sort of incentive for doing that. I am more amazed people working in the retailer side of it have not shared pictures but every day this gets harder to keep quiet.

I mean people are buying 5090s with a 144hz monitors which will have no tangible benefit over a 5080 that will also run at max monitor refresh rate while saying it's for "Future Proofing upcoming games" which they will never play on it because they will buy a 6090 anyway.

Never underestimate what people will do.

I guess they have a lot of practice, they no doubt also have nvidia 5000 series turning up this week and intel 570s last few weeks

I suspect there will be plenty of clowns who will use MFG 4x on a 144Hz monitor and wonder why it feels sluggish or stuttery.

I've been reading of folk lined up already willing to spend £2.5k+ on upgrading their 4090. I don't think I could justify that. I purposely never went for the 3090 as felt that was too much for one component.
I fully understand that this is some folks only hobby and that I shouldn't judge at all what someone is willing to spend but seems a bit nuts jumping every generation for a minimal upgrade.

It's just about upgrading what you need. A 4090 runs everything, literally everything, and by the looks of it, without DLSS and FG even games like Cyberpunk are still not going to run brilliantly on the 5090 so it will still feel odd to play.

It seams like loads of people are upgrade for that 0.1% of games that need it and even then just so they can post on a forum somewhere about their FPS.

IMO generational upgrades are dead and you really should be skipping a gen at the minimum and if the 4090 - 5090 upgrade is about 30% as expected I can see skipping 2 generations becoming the norm.

the 7900XTX and 4080 is what i was considering, they are both perfect for 4k gaming, in the games I play, so the 9070xt is leaks are true is shaping up to be the perfect card for my needs. (Pending price of course!) Sub £600 and I think ill buy it right away, if it's over £600 ill wait till the end of the month for 5080 reviews and see how they compare.

I do think some people have bought into the idea that they need the best, so regardless of the cost or the poor uplift in performance once their 4090 isn't the best any more they have to upgrade.
It genuinely looks as though the 5080 won't be a match for the 4090, so its really bonkers.
