This Instant And Moment - 2025!

Bought a cheap and nasty network switch to gut because I needed an enclosure of a certain size for a project and it was the only thing I could find which fitted, opening it up was surprising - there is 2 PCBs inside high voltage (mains to 52V DC) and low voltage for the Ethernet side, the high voltage side has all name brand components like Nichicon capacitors and probably bill of materials can't have been much below the retail price of the whole unit, while the low voltage side is the cheapest nastiest noname components you could find.

As I need a DC power supply for the project I can possibly put the high voltage side into use though not ideal as I need 19V and 12V and doesn't look like there is an easy way to tweak the existing design for a lower voltage output itself.

EDIT: Also amusing inside how much they've tried to save costs only bothering with screwing down one of the 4 mounting points for the PCBs, using a dap of glue or tape instead of screws for things, etc. etc. I'm assuming the high voltage PCB was probably bought as an off the shelf component as it is of different design and production quality to everything else.

Work have put me up in a rather uncharacteristically nice hotel up in Aberdeen while I’m here on a course. Anyway, just walked into the bar/restaurant, ordered a beer and sat down with a menu to order some food. It was only after receiving a few odds looks, then suddenly noticing a seem on my sleeve that wasn’t there before that I realised that I’m sitting here with my jumper on inside out….Now corrected after I quickly scuttled back to my room.

Pulled one of the freezer drawers too hard and managed to snap both the drawer plastic bracket and the drawer front cover :( £50 down the drain!

I noticed one of my mum's freezers all the drawers are in various states of that - I guess some don't survive the cold as well as they should and stuff gets brittle and snaps too easily.
 
Got my head down early for once, about 1am, took a while to get to sleep. Been awake since 5.30am after having to deal with a blocked toilet :(. Got a few household chores done and now sat with a cuppa until the day starts properly at 7.30am.

Edit: I could murder a proper full English breakfast but my blood pressure says no.

I forget sometimes that I'm upside down and 12 hours ahead of you guys (Wednesday will be terrific btw, don't tell anyone) but bloody good show on chores and a cuppa and it's not even 'being responsible' time yet!

I tried to leave the house and my key wont turn... then I wiiggle and apply more pressure and it turns with a crunch...

but the door doesnt unlock...

I live on the 5th floor and its the only way out.. the woman on the phone was a thicko gen z... who thought I was trapped outside........ I said I;m trapped inside the first words...

I had to explain I AM TRAPPED INSIDE THE HOUSE, I LIVE ON THE 5th floor.... IF THERES A FIRE I AM GOING TO DIE...

she still acts like I'm wasting her time and shes bored...

someone will be out "whenever" lol.....

It'd be funny if there was a fire and I did die

Suggest you assemble a makeshift parachute out of bedsheets just in case. :p

I wasn’t a frequent poster but miss the daily reading. Can we not just revoke access to the crazies and reopen, it’s been more than 14 days :o
