I must admit I'm really unfamiliar with AMDs lineup of GPUs as I haven't looked at buying from them for so long. OK £450 is more appealing, all I know is £800 is ludicrous.

Have a 7900xtx (paid 920euro) arriving tomorrow and have been tearing myself up trying to figure out should I return it (30 day return policy) and get a 9070xt, if those prices are accurate I won't bother, just wait for fsr4 to come to it or use lossless scaling if it doesn't.Predictions many of us have made seem to be on point if these prices hold true:

€920 for an XTX is too much, maybe at €750. Even if those prices are accurate for the 9070XT it will get close to 7900 XTX in raster and destroy it in RT.

Depends on if that's their aim really with this generation - or whether the aim is to just sell a decent chunk of cards and turn a profit.
Considering there are some doughnuts out there who are paying £1600 for a 5080 that is both worse performing and more expensive than a 4090 there's a safe chance that even if AMD released a solid performing 7090XT at £599 that matches/beats a 5070/70Ti that those same bananas would turn their nose up and pay double for the 70/70Ti.
Reddit is never a good example because the place is full of mostly American degenerates - but the sheer number of comments that are 'nope, I'd never consider an AMD gpu because I read that they had driver issues in 2015 and even though I've only exclusively played games on an Xbox One there is absolutely 0 chance I'd buy anything other than Nvidia' is outstanding.

The 9070 is looking well beyond a 4070 performance to be fair.
At $580 and $699 and the rumoured performance, the 9070 and 9070 XT are just OK and at least giving improved price to performance. Nothing special at all but better than the 5070 and 5070Ti by about 15% in price/perf.

Normally I would completely agree, wait and see, unfortunately the current market is so ****** up that if the 9070xt releases and is good stock could disappear and if it's bad prices will skyrocket on 7*** gpus, and then there's the AMD variable of will they screw it up with stupid pricing.
Luckily I have 30 days from tomorrow to return so should hopefully have a better idea of the 9070xt within that window.
Ideally I'd have actually bought a 5080 at msrp, but that isn't happening anytime soon.
Btw where have you seen xtxs for 750, lowest I've ever seen was around 850 before shipping.

I think you are convincing yourself you missed out when frankly you got lucky. The 5080 is a terrible price and performance is objectively well below where it should be.
Though buying a 7900 XTX for close to what you expected a 5080 for is a reactionary move IMHO. I haven’t seen them for €750, I’m saying that’s what they should be worth if the 9070 XT $699 price is accurate.

I think it was more of a frustration buy tbh, I'm willing to pay 1k or even a little more for a GPU but for the last while it seems like there's nothing that can be got that resembles good value for that price. Hopefully AMD knock it out of the park with the 9070/xt but my gut is telling me it will go much like nvidias new launch.
I would not bother stressing about returning it the 7900xtx does everything you need it to do very well and should last a good 4 years+ unless your into 4k raytracing games

4k yes, raytacing I can take or leave. I'm finally moving on from a 1080ti so anything will be a big jump, must say though lossless scaling is a great program for extending a GPUs capabilities. The GPU market has gotten so frustrating in recent years, it used to be so simple.
The 7800 XT already outperforms the 4070 and costs $499. And the 9070 is supposed to be a generation newer and a tier and a half higher in the product stack. So it's likely to be a lot faster than a 4070, and probably closer to a 4070 Ti Super (and even then, that's a lower than normal generational improvement).

I will say I am kicking myself for not picking up one of those 7900XTX Mercs, Pulses or Hellhounds when they were going for <£700 back in November. The Red Devil I had was honestly one of the best cards I've owned on balance for a while, but I'd sold it in 2023 because I just had to have a 4090.
I was just thinking yesterday, after another check of my queue status to see there was no movement, how the "joy" of being a PC hardware enthusiast has been destroyed over the past years. I'm spending as much time now looking for a GPU, but angry about the insidious tactics of big Green, and fretting over them being overpriced, I have little time for gaming

A 6.66% increase in cores and 22% increase in clock speeds over the 7800 XT
A 20% decrease in cores and 32% increase in clock speed over the 7900 GRE.
A 23% decrease in cores with a 19% increase in clock speeds over a 7900 XT.
With those sorts of changes i can't see it getting close to the performance of a 5080, it may even struggle to get close to a 5070 Ti.
its also on TSMC 3nm and they could have made improvments in rdns 4 compared to rdna3 dont think its as simple as going by cores and clock speeds only
