As expected a good chunk of the FE drop on Thursday has made its way to Ebay was checking on there on Thursday just after the drop and were probably like 3 cards remaining... now a good 48

Yeah it's sad isn't it really as it keeps it out of genuine customers hands.

It's a difficult one...

I've managed to get one as an upgrade from my 4090FE and to be honest, I haven't noticed a big difference. So I'm a genuine customer, but at the same time I am very very tempted to sell it. But that's not where it's difficult. The way I'm looking at it is that I have graphics card that people are willing to pay £3000 for, but I don't think it's worth that much and would honestly still be very happy with my 4090. So what motivation do I have to keep the 5090 and sell the 4090? If I sell it I will end up with an extra £1500 in my hand which I can spend on something else and still have the 2nd best graphics card you can buy.

At the moment I haven't sold it and I've put my 4090 in the MM. But the temptation is real and I honestly can't put my finger on why I've put the 4090 for saie and still have the 5090 in my rig

It is very difficult but then I suppose apart from FOMO, why upgrade from a 4090 as most reviews said don't do it as it's a small uplift and a 4090 can still pretty much take on anything still.

But of course 4090s are selling very well and commanding a premium atm so if you can upgrade and recoup the majority of the cost of a 5090 with the sale of the 4090 then I'd definitely do that.

Like I said I hate scalping but I also aren't immune to that fact it's essentially people buying them that keeps scalpers in business.

So if people are daft enough to pay double or triple rather than waiting a few months then I also totally see why people do it and sell them on. So I get the temptation that you get your hands on a 5090 and I could double my money and then buy another one further down the lines so essentially paying no money for one long term then.

I'm contradicting myself lol but maybe what I'm trying to say there's a suttle difference of being a genuine customer who fully intended to use it, but then thought why not cash in and get another one later rather than fully intending to bot there way to buying all the stock to sell with no intention of gaming.

4090 FE cards are selling for £1,800+, sometimes more. That'll never happen again and will drop as more 5090 FE are made.

Well as you know I was faced with the same situation. I had one of the first 5090 Suprims in the country and sold for £4999. As much as many people look down on it, to ignore economic realities is silly. I love my games, it was the card I wanted above all else, but was it worth £4999 to game at max settings? No. I resounded my self to selling and getting a new gpu down the road.

My advice is to go with your own feeling and individual circumstances. We both never bought to sell, and that's an important distinction in my book.

@no_1_dave if you’ve any interest in a new monitor soon, the 50 series has a DP 2.1 port… the 40 series does not.

Some people might say this is irrelevant, but I’ve had DSC issues myself and I’m definitely doing what I can to get the most of that.

Have a watch of the latest Linus video released today with 8K gaming, which serves as Linus and his co-host deciding whether an upgrade to a 5090 is worth it.

While it's not a huge uplift in your current situation you can turn that into a free uplift as currently you can probably get upto £2000 back for the 4090 which is what they are going for on Ebay. That way you get a brand new card that is better and essentially cost you nothing. I had the opportunity to put mine on there and keep my Astral preorder in place which could have made me a nice bit of cash but I bought the gpu because I wanted it and the fact i sold my fe for £1700 meant this upgrade cost me £240 total , I've now cancelled the Astral preorder and am more than happy with the 5090 FE

An ebay buyer can pretty much return it no questions asked within 30 days so there's a risk of them trying it on if they manage to get one retail before then.

So if you are planning to sell should do it quick. Quite a few 5090s have a 30th March due date and cards have been dropping on other sites daily this past week.

Other than that you also wont be able to buy another FE for a while due to the 1 per household rule. Doesn't seem like you are overly happy with the 5090 so doubt that will matter to you.

I saw another drop of the Palit 5090s at a competitor today... the same one that scalped them at £2999 last time. This time, they gave up pretending and just put it up as £3000. Only 3 cards this time, I think, but at least it shows they're still trickling through.

O yeah, had so much drama with AMD GPUs.

X2 290, 390 and a 580 all died prematurely, one of the 290s lasted all of two weeks and the others died within a year of having them.

Obviously quite a while a go, but it was enough to swear me off AMD GPUs that’s for sure.

You sure it wasn't the PSU killing all those cards?

I dont doubt for a split second you didn't buy to sell and that is an important distinction. But it what you did afterwards was an even more important distinction and got you cooked afterwards. Have you not noticed if someone else mentions their plan to sell no one bats an eye lid and people even agree with them. But when you did it you got a lot of flak.

The only difference is they announced and you got outted in a post.

Yeah. I didn't hide it, bit I didn't announce either out of respect at the time (I knew how super lucky I was). I also put up a solid case and explained myself extensively. In hindsight my mistake was posting the first ever real world photo of it, but I was genuinly excited to get it and thought other people would be intrested. Obviously not everyone agreed with my choice and some will always think it's wrong (mods took Members Market away from me and called me untrustworthy*) but ultimately think if RRP is a lot to spend on gaming, thousands over that in "real world" value is even more. In this economy most of us can't pass up that kind of money and it would be almost irresponsible to do so.

*for clarity I also had my first ever sale this year that also had a tiniest bit of friction when both new items in one solid foam box arrived perfect but dead, both parties were happy at resolution after I rmaed and refunded at my expense.

You knew what card you currently had/have and the prices of other alternatives on the market. But once you saw the scalper prices you also decided that an extra £1500 would be nice -- understandable.

The end result of what you're is exactly the same as someone buying it with the express intent to scalp it. The road to hell is paved with good intentions, as it were (that we're not being honest with ourselves about and are now trying to rationalize away with moral signaling). J'accuse in this respect.

All in all though, who cares? I wouldn't do the same due to the high risk of scamming on these items and £1500 may not mean the same thing to me as it does to you, but really, there are worse things happening in the world now than a GPU launch catastrophe and people taking advantage of it. Objectively you're still a scalper exacerbating problems with supply and should consider yourself extremely lucky the mods continue to allow you to post in a thread with genuine consumers awaiting their cards.

I agree with most of the post but I would say with regards to been as bad as the scalpers I have no intention to buy anymore, didn't buy to sell and didn't use any unfair methods such as bots etc (I just took day off work). I knew it would be valuable, just not THAT valuable. If it was going for say an extra 1k I absolutely would not of sold, but it was an extra £2200 over what I paid.

The vast majority of blame lies with Nvidia IMO. Not just under supply, but barely anything, single digits nation wide for some SKUs.

I'm only addressing comments from users placed in a similar situation due to market circumstances. I think you can read any of my posts and know I'm not rubbing anyone's face in it. It would have been easier to not explain and remain silent. Good point. Those diatribes just a few months ago on how you could build an equivalent PC for £650 seem a distant memory. If you're just in it for pure gaming, it's a lot more tempting at present.

Agreed. If you are in the market for a new PC, gaming and if it would be a win to spend as little as possible… a console and a cheap laptop / prebuilt mini-pc is probably the way to go.

Speaking as someone who let FOMO get the better of them and played through FFVII Rebirth on PS5 instead of waiting for the PC version, don't do it. Your eyes deserve better.

That being said, the PS5 *probably* won't catch fire and melt.
