Assassins Creed Shadows - AC finally (at last) heads to Japan

Confirmed, it's going to be terrible. Watched a gameplay video too and lol.
If its eurogamer singing its praise then yeah I am already suss. Did anyone actually like Valhala? I completed Odysesy and Origins and I enjoyed Origins more then Odysesy but Valhala bored me to death I couldn't continue playing it despite taking place in ye olde England, and I haven't bothered with AC since.

I played , and really enjoyed, all 3. Origins was probably my favourite of the 3 in hindsight, closely followed by Odyssey and Valhalla in 3rd. The more I've seen of Shadows the more worried I am but will wait to see some release gameplay to get an idea of whether or not my worries are founded

No Valhalla was just the ultimate example of a bloated game. Even just focusing on the main quest.

Blimey, don't people have better things to do with their time than create a whole game to take the ****?

I just completed Ghost of Tsushima: DC and that was a load of made up bobbins as well, so I don't really care about whether a black Samurai is historically accurate. It's Assassins Creed - It's all been quite ridiculous. The series has aliens and a machine that let you travel through time (sort of) using DNA and at one point you kill the pope who has a magic sceptre.

Was there an outcry about 'The Last Samurai' 20 years ago?

Day one purchase for me.
What would be even funnier is if it outsells Shadows.

Personally, I'm really looking forward to this. Though I've really enjoyed the bigger AC games, I even had a lot of fun with Valhalla and people seemed to hate that.

I also enjoyed Valhalla, and looking forward to this - it won't be a day one purchase, even if it gets amazing reviews, primarily because I haven't managed to get Mirage and do that yet. I enjoy the AC games for what they are. People seem to be super negative about them, but I definitely get my money's worth out of them. Black Flag and Origins have had many replays.

I would skip Mirage.

This advice comes from someone who has completed it.

I found Valhalla too big, I was torn on what to do. Haven't enjoyed an AC game in a while. I doubt this iteration is for me either.

I thought Mirage was decent enough ; not spectacular but had far less bloat than Valhalla or Odyssey. Someone who likes the modern AC games would enjoy it, I think.
Well it's definitely manageable and short compared to some of the bloated AC games.

But in terms of the gameplay, it doesn't move the needle.

Personally, I don't mind that - I appreciate people want new, innovative gameplay but I don't mind a known series sticking to a fairly known gameplay cycle. I'd have been quite happy if they'd kept the combat from AC Black Flag to be honest.

Same!

What I remember is that

1) The storyline didn't make any sense to me, I literally had to lookup on wikipedia what it was about, and unless you have a real good memory for Valhalla then I wouldn't bother

2) The game was far too easy. I tend to play games on hard and don't even recall dying. It was really easy to stealth around and assassinate people.

This. Not every game needs to innovate. It’s this kind of thought process that has led to increasing costs that are now proving to be a barrier to gaming development.

It was an impressive world with a great premise, but my goodness it dragged on near the end.

It was impressive, I just felt lost! Maybe more a me problem than the games tbf :)

I honestly loved the world of Valhalla (Odyssey was better obviously) so much that I really enjoyed the DLC expansions too. The only 'world' I didn't enjoy as much was Jotunheim because all the quests there felt like filler. I did like Asgard though.

I really missed the Mercenary system of Odyssey though. I would spend ages just tracking down other mercenaries and taking them down
