Spec me a rice cooker

@Feek is that okay? What are you trying to see? lol
Oh sorry, yes, just wanted to see how it compared.

Here's mine, this is a cup of rice and a cup of water.

It's quite dense in the pan at the completion of cooking but fluffs up nicely.

Not entirely sure if this would apply to rice cookers, but on the hob I've always gone by what I would shown and that is a cup of washed rice to a cup and a quarter of water.

Same cup.

No. Rice cooker is generally equal volumes for white rice. Brown rice a bit more.

Any good rice recommendations, I’m going to both

https://www.exoticsuperstore.co.uk/ an Indian

and

an asian supermarket tomorrow so should have a good variety to look at.

For reference I normally use tilda basmati which I’ve found fine.

We always buy Mai Thai 5kg Jasmine rice, we stock up when it’s on offer (currently £5.75 at Sainsbury) it’s decent enough quality and great value

Recently got a rice cooker. Used it twice now. Fantastic. Can't believe I've not had one before.

We have Jasmin rice and using a 1 rice 2 water ratio and it's working so far I'd say almost perfect.

I'm not a huge fan of rice because i usually mess it up somehow but this is almost idiot proof.

Picked this up the other day. Think I've got the rice to water ratio down, long grain white rice is 1:1.75-2

Will be having Loco Moco for tea tonight.

Looks more like a slow cooker. All the rice cookers I've seen rice to water is 1:1 for white rice.

That's the "dumb" kind of rice cooker, the lid on it isn't sealed/latched down like the ones with fuzzy logic. It's simply a glass lid with a hole, holding down the steam from pure weight of the glass. The combination of boiling water on max with a simple lid would lead to more water vapour escaping. Versus a more sealed lid cooking rice in a lower than boiling point, thus allowing the rice to soak up water during that time before taking it to peak temp.

I bought a Yum Asia Panda a while ago based upon the positive reviews here. I’ve not had a great deal of luck, so I thought I’d relate my experience in the hope that someone can tell me where I’m going wrong!

Ive tried a few different rices, basmati and jasmine. I’m measuring a portion of rice using the included 180ml plastic pot then washing it extensively before adding it to the cooker. I’m then adding water until it reaches long grain line 1 and starting the cooker on the long grain mode.

Once it’s finished (about 40 minutes later), I get rice that’s cooked but a bit goopy, hardly the light and fluffy perfection I’d hoped for.

Any thoughts welcome.
