NVIDIA RTX 50 SERIES - (PRE)ORDER DISCUSSION **NO COMPETITOR HINTING**

I’m already in a pre-order queue for an MSI Suprim (air cooled) on the basis that it’s supposedly the quietest of the bunch with average to good coil whine. Looks nice and ‘premium’ too.

Downsides are a potentially laborious RMA process, if you’re unlucky (apparently MSI are just about the worst for GPU RMAs) and a ‘premium card’ price tag.

So on 4xxx series launch day I got a suprim 4090. Within anfortnight it started to show these small artifacts on the screen like only 5 or 6. Within a few days the memory went kaput.

So I just Rma it via OCuk and I waited about a month. They returned to me a spanking brand new card which suprised me as this is the only time I have ever rma'ed a video card and the first time a GPU has ever died on me in over two decades.

I often hear about manufacturers returning a refurbished card or a return which In some cases is worse than the card you sent in so that did suprise me. I don't know what the reputation of MSI Rma is in general but I thought the RMA process was pretty good. Although if the didn't return the card to me then OCUk would have to refund me for it.

Good to hear you had a decent outcome. A lot of people have horror stories of RMAs where they wair two months, then just get the same faulty ("repaired") card back.

I had bought a certified refurbished Gigabyte 4090 Gaming from another vendor in early 2023. It ran fine (despite coil whine you could hear in the next house) for 5 months, then unexplainedly died. I sent the card back for RMA fully expecting an odessey of BS. A week later the outfit replied stating the card was, in fact, dead and under warranty. They offered me the choice of a 4090 Strix or Auros WF as a replacement and even extended the warranty with then another year -- I took the Strix. Best RMA outcome ever.

Thanks for the insight.

Yes, from what I’ve read I think the RMA process for MSI is something that may become painful after a period of time (maybe >6 months) when the arrangement between the retailer and manufacturer that enables a no-nonsense quick card swap comes to an end (or otherwise the retailer’s willingness / policy on being ‘helpful’ ending, which I expect typically coincides with it no longer being assumed by law that the product was faulty when received, which is 6 months).

Nice to see some getting their cards shipped yesterday, including the fabled Suprim Air. I've moved 1 more overnight, not long now.

178 -> 155

If this is at the retailer that allows you to check queue position on their website, then for what it’s worth I’m still 41 of 41. Your drop in the queue is probably due to cancellations.

MSI seem to have a lot less UK supply than, say, the ASUS cards. I wonder why that is.

Was that the barcode place? They are fantastic with RMA's. I had a Sapphire Nitro + oc 7800XT that was faulty after a year and they replaced it with a brand new one, all in a week!

Bank declined my order. Maybe bank predicted the out of stock situation.
I do not understand. They have few for sell but take load of pre-order. Nice
Website went down at the same time. Given they don't generally pre order, likely a mistake IMO.
