Regarding the sapphire card with 16 pin connector,

Toms hardware has an interesting article on it, seems sapphire have installed some safe guards to stop the power cable and card from melting and ruining the card.

No doubt to get repaired it will have to be RMA'd but at least it won't be a fire hazard

Sapphire does the unthinkable and puts 16-pin power connector on an RX 9070 XT

It took an AMD AIB partner to make one of the most aesthetically pleasing implementations of the 16-pin connector.

It's fuses strangely enough - rather than being confident of melting not occurring, Sapphire has installed a couple fuses that will blow if the cable or connector starts acting naughty. I'm not sure if you have to replace the fuse each time it blows because you connected the cable wrong lol

It's quite excessive really, why can't we just get a cable and connector that doesn't melt, instead of trying to install circuit breaker fuses into GPUs

Typically fuses fitted to GPUs are of the SMD variety, it's possible they're using socketed fuses but i doubt it, so unless you're handy with a soldering iron a blown fuse would be an RMA.

Looking at the AIBs 9070XTs which in the opinion of this discerning forum is the best looking one? Interested in an all metal construction as I like the way AMD (mba) makes them out of metal esp for the shroud and backplate- esp now there is no mba for 9070 series.

I Don't think any look that good , maybe xfx / nitro why can't aib partner just copy the MBA , MBA looks by far the best imo

The Nitro looks nice and made of metal. The XFX Merc also looks great with the RGB.

I’ve seen you post this a few times and you are wrong. Nvidia do drop or adjust prices as the market demands. They tend to release mid range refreshes as “super” models, and or enhance Ti models at the top end. What they do is adjust prices during these refreshes as the market warrants. Sometimes it up and sometimes it’s down.

They have also in the past had to adjust prices on the fly, it is just rare because normally AMD don’t make any release that force this. This is the first time in years that AMD have scored in the open goal and if Nvidia don’t respond, they WILL lose some market and more of ominously, mind share.

We have people declaring that Nvidia still have better RT, then they show CP2077 or Wukong to “prove this”. Yet last gen they had a ~40 lead in these titles. 5070Ti is 50% faster than a 7900 XTX in CP3077 ultra RT at 4K. The 5070Ti is looking like 20% faster than a 9070 XT in the same game. Yet this 20% is the difference between 25 vs 30 FPS.

AMD have caught up in upscaling and RT to the point the lead is much diminished. Enough that when you compare £600 vs £750 MSRP, that a 25% increase in cost over the AMD product make you pause for thought.

Could AMD have really gone for it, yes of course. But let’s not delude ourselves a $599 GPU competing with a $750 5070Ti is not going to cause some waves. This is not the “Nvidia minus $50 scenario we all expected.

Yes it's certainly enough that I don't care. In most games that utilise RT in a way that keeps games at reasonable frame rates the 9700xt will perform absolutely fine. Personally I am really pleased as I wanted to keep with AMD as I like there software (maybe that's just familiarity having owned RDNA 2 and 3) and I really thought I was going to have to jump ship.

True. If not then it doesn't make sense as vram as pointed out by people in this very thread is relatively cheap.

Maybe they feel for this level of performance 16GB is the right amount.

Could also be that they have finally improved their compression techniques and don't feel they need to provide extra vram like they used to.

I think they are aiming to make the cards as price competitive as possible. So feel like 16GB is a good compromise.

These are mid range priced, whilst the 5070ti is top tier price. Which I guess is why I am confused.

All in all if these are 5070ti at $600 that's a very good offering.

It is simple. These are companies and not your best mate. People complain about both sides. It happens.

Why would everyone just say positive things? Nvidia with their huge mindshare can't even manage that.

The power consumption of the 9070 looks to be good (about the same as my 3070FE),
though how much difference this makes over the long term when compared to the 9070XT and other ~300w GPUs, I don't know.

I was hoping for an even better price than this, but it's a start.
IIRC, the PSU requirement is no more than a 750w, which is what I have, so at least I don't have to pick up a new one of those.

Got RTX 6000 Adas within days when we needed a new scientific cluster. I hate the monopoly myself, but it's on AMD for not claiming ground.

So, based even on your own words, they don't drop prices - they release new models with different pricing (and usually a year later). That people in the know (me and you and other on forums like this) see it as price change doesn't mean average person does - all they see is new model with different pricing replacing old model. So, again, Nvidia doesn't drop prices. Just to add to the above, their own CEO openly stated they limit supply instead, when they had 3k series to sell still and held back 4k series supply exactly to avoid dropping prices. And they still do such things. That they didn't in some distant past is irrelevant to the current reality.

Again, as per their financial report they are doing just fine in the enterprise. Gaming is another thing all together.
