Additional question: Does anyone knows if coil whine is covered by MSI's warranty or not?

Please remember that any mention of competitors, hinting at competitors or offering to provide details of competitors will result in an account suspension. The full rules can be found under the 'Terms and Rules' link in the bottom right corner of your screen. Just don't mention competitors in any way, shape or form and you'll be OK.
Don't let it get that far. Keep it within the first two weeks, where your customer rights are the strongest IMO.Additional question: Does anyone knows if coil whine is covered by MSI's warranty or not?

Zero coil whine from my asus Astral oc 5090.
This is something you need to figure out immediately (well, in a couple of days) when it arrives.
If a card has bad coil whine, just return it straight away - no questions asked.
Sure, returning it would be the easiest way, but,if the stocks stay that bad,it would mean waiting maybe weeks or months to get a new one...Don't let it get that far. Keep it within the first two weeks, where your customer rights are the strongest IMO.
Hola!!!!! Welcome to the forums.Hello everyone. Greetings from Spain. I'm sorry if there's any mistake in the text, use google translator to help me.
On the 10th of this month I got a Zotac 5080 Solid OC at normal price.
The coil noise is heard with the box completely closed, the noise comes out of the top of the box where the fans are and a little from the side. I recorded a video with the sound:
In person the sound is much more noticeable, it seems that the mobile phone does not record it well at all.
The doubt I have to what extent it is normal in these cards, I have been informing myself by reading many forums and many people assume it as normal and only return if the sound is somewhat extreme. If all of them are going to have it to a greater or lesser extent I don't know if it is worth returning it, in addition to the stock problems.
I have tried changing the psu for a corsair rm1000 atx 3.1 and many possible solutions that I have read but nothing works. The only thing that works is to do undervolt, it lowers the sound quite a bit and I gain a little performance.
My surprise was when I put the pny 3080 back and discovered that it also has noise, exactly the same as the 5080 but a little lower. Could it be a problem with the voltages delivered by the motherboard's pci? I understand that it depends on the card the type of noise is different and in my case the 3080 and the 5080 make the same type of noise only the 3080 a little lower.
Before I didn't hear anything because in the box I had some much louder fans and a secondary mechanical HDD.
I have to say that I only hear it when I lower the volume to zero or almost zero and look for the sound, it's not that the sound itself bothers me that much but it annoys me to pay €1275 and have the card have that sound.
Is this normal or is it really just bad luck and most cards don't have coil whine?
Welcome aboard, be careful mentioning selling, there's some sensitivity around the subject. I was crucified for selling my Suprim lol.Got lucky to bag a 5090 FE on launch day, squealed and buzzed pretty badly. Sold on for a sizeable profit. My 5080 FE replacement was much quieter, barely audible. Sold that and got a 5090 MSI Gaming Trio now. This has the buzzing, not the squeal, but it's almost as bad as the FE I had.
I can appreciate the sentiment around selling and I intended to keep the card, until I saw them going for 3.5k + at which point you can not blame people for wanting to make money, but you can blame nvidia for continuing to basically paper launch cards and rip off consumers. Their focus is the ai market now, they care nothing for gamers who put them where they are.Welcome aboard, be careful mentioning selling, there's some sensitivity around the subject. That's disappointing to hear about both models having it. So far it feels a lot more random than the 40 series.
Yep 100% agree I intended to keep mine, and it still is the card I want more than any other (Though I am trying out an AMD card on Thursday). You just can't turn down thousands when all you want to do is game. Nvidia stopped production of the 40 series months before launch, this is obviously a very manufactured shortage.I can appreciate the sentiment around selling and I intended to keep the card, until I saw them going for 3.5k + at which point you can not blame people for wanting to make money, but you can blame nvidia for continuing to basically paper launch cards and rip off consumers. I returned the suprim liquid. It has a little coil whine. Not excessive but not close compared to my gaming trio which has none and my suprim 5090 has coil whine but it so quiet you wouldn’t notice it.Hi
I tested a 5080 Asus prime OC, coil whine present.
I also tested a 5080 MSI suprim liquid and it has a little coil whine.
For the moment my 5080 suprim is the one with the least coil whine.
I dream of a 5090 without coil whine.
I will soon test a 5080 aorus waterforce, to be continued![]()
I rather a separate thread. Having AMD stuff here will get clustered. Having a separate thread would be ideal. People who are not interested in Nvidia cards won’t have to wade through pages pages of text which don’t apply to their brand and sku.Do people feel I should include 90xx series AMD cards here or strictly limited it to 50 series?
