After saying i wouldn't upgrade my 7900XT i sold it earlier in the week for a good price with the intention of getting a 9070XT Taichi today but saw overclockers has the Gainward 5080 instock yesterday so bought that on impulse (not cheap!). Really considering sending it back and saving a good chunk of money and getting the 9070XT as intended.

Well attempted to get a 9070XT at 14.00 and after 2 hours gave up after many 504 errors but did manage to get an order in with a competitor for the 9070XT Nitro but haven't had a confirmation of order for that yet but the 5080 I impulse ordered yesterday was delivered. Undecided what to do now.

It's not just OCUK, I think most online retailers are holding back stock.
But they can only hold on to it for so long.
I have a feeling people who wait a few days will be rewarded for doing so.

Gibbo said yesterday that demand for the Nitro and Taichi looked incredible. And these are the models that sold the most today.
It makes no sense that there would be highest demand for the £700 cards.

Something doesn't add up.

makes sense to me the premium over a lower model was not huge with the Nvidia solutions there was anything up to £400-500 premium for the oc cards

with the nitro ect they sat at under £700 when I spotted them similar story to the taichi also the Nitro has the nifty hidden power cables for fancy mounting

Are you really blaming AMD for unprecedented demand, scalpers and a worldwide launch? OcUK alone said they had thousands, it sounds to me like there were huge numbers UK/Europe/Worldwide, just not enough to meet the unprecedented demand.

and even then some places are taking pre orders with a due date in the next week

I honestly don't get everyone saying don't spend a hundred and a bit more for the card you want. It's not a lot more for the design, better cooling, better performance. Not everyone goes for the bog standard models.

It's still far cheaper than any 5070ti.

Yeh not great but it's at 570 and looks nice lol.. a 9 series under 600...

Not sure really how big the gap is between XT and non XT.

Personally I think I will buy a new card when GTV6 comes out.

So probably in 5 years!

Who knows, there may come a time they can be flashed with an XT vbios...

Even if that is the case I don't think I would do it. I am upgrading from a radeon 5700 non XT. I can't remember if there was an offer on it or whether I was just saving the pennies instead of the XT. It has been ok but is now showing its age and getting to be too slow. The 5700XT would also be too slow now.

I am sure that the same will be true of the 9070. When the non XT is getting too slow the XT will also be too slow. Obviously some people will see it differently and want the fastest they can get.
