That’s because you installed windows 11 right? And your friend didn’t have any issues as he installed windows 10…

:p

Oh I had issues installing windows 10 too! different problems, the very first problem was conflicting hard drives with their own MBR preventing new drive being installed on.

I did, in the end, download windows 11 onto a usb stick and installed from that instead

A R23 Run this morning with 200 Boost and CO of -35,-35

R23 Results
35? I cant manage 200 in 20m, can handle -15
Asus crosshair, 64 gb 6000, cl 30 ram, 9950x3d

was it stable or just manage R23 :) higer negative can handle R23 etc... but when it comes to small operations like copy files,
browser, etc then it will hang. -15 seams to work though.

It’s totally stable at -35, -35. I have been running prime, Intel Burn Test, games and 2 full days of software development with plenty of idle and teams. Boost for the R23 was because someone asked for me to test. Day to day it’s without boost. I initially was running -40,-40 but it would lock on idle sometimes. So I have settled for -35, -35. It’s a great chip for sure, dropped lucky.

Don't know how many use lightroom, but this still amazes me

the estimates are not accurate, but relatively, it is FAST

and another this evening, 281 images - I'm guessing that'll just be about 30 minute - would have took well over an hour before.

Have there been any major issues with specific motherboards that people have tried this CPU with?

Saw others mention asrock issues.

Think I’m just going with this in new build with 9950x3d and 5080

Asrock seems to be the main one with the 9800X3D with burning processors. Haven't heard any issues with 9950X3D yet though.

Asus trails behind and then everyone else.

So maybe I shouldn’t have asked for an Asus!

What a headache.

Had the asrock x870 pro rs in my original quote, maybe I should have left it at that.

Heavy Lightroom user here, and been on the fence for a few years now regarding a new desktop PC for photo editing. I thought the denoise function mostly used the GPU to do all the number crunching, but pleased to see a faster CPU also make a good difference :)

On a side note, does anyone know if the hardware encoder in the 9000 series is any better or the same as the 7000? Tried it on my 7950x a while back and wasn't too impressed.

Yea I hadn't thought about that, I do have a 4090 - buy my previous X3900 cpu was holding it back a lot.

I'm still rocking an i7-6900k with a 1070Ti :D Hence I actively avoid de-noise unless it's *really* needed as it can take upwards of a minute to process a single image. I'm very much looking forward to a new desktop at some point with faster M2 drives, USB4 and 10GBe :)

Quick question..
What are the idleing temps for people?

My 9950X3D is idling at 50-60c and 70-75 under load.
Replaced the thermal paste twice and always stays around the same.
The chip isn't showing any signs of being faulty but never had a CPU idle at such high temps - My 9950X idled at 30-35c

Idle / desktop use 35 - 40c,

Gaming 45 - 55c

This is at stock settings with a 420MM AIO

So my chip is running very hot..
My 9950X ran at the temps you are getting - I have ordered some thermal qgrizlly.
My cooler is the CORSAIR iCUE H170i ELITE LCD XT.

I am not sure if the chip is faulty as shouldn't be running at those temps.

That sounds a bit high. Have you checked task manager to see if anything is running in the background. It should be sitting around 2-3 % on average while idle.

Yeah that does seem on the warmer side for idle. Repaste and torque the mounting screws very evenly and slowly.
