Are refurb chairs risky?

which do you prefer? My refurb leap is a good few years old now but keeps dropping down every so often. Not sure if to fix it or buy a new one.
The Gesture is better, but a good condition Leap V1 will still be better than most chairs on the market. I'd look into fixing it. By dropping, do you mean the height? I'd look into the gas cylinder, you might find this useful (vid says v2 but still relevant for v1):

'hermanmilleroutletuk' - picked up my refurbished Embody from them on Ebay last year. I couldn't spot a single mark or flaw - it might as well have been new, aside from the fact it arrived in unofficial packaging.

I paid approx 1/2 price though, not sure why the refurb price has climbed to over £1K now. Not worth it at current price, as you don't get the warranty.

Just had a look on there, seems to be extremely poor value. Gaming Aeron = £870 (£826.50 with 5% code) vs £1,096 for a new one...

Yeah I don't think I'd be buying used chairs, but a manufacturer's refurb will at least have been inspected for problems, had parts replaced, cleaned etc

I'd always consider used/refurbished. I bought an Ergohuman Plus for £200. A quick whizz over with the spot cleaner and it was like new, and a quarter of the price. Used office equipment suppliers are a good option, a lot of the stock is barely used.

i have just recieved a 'corporate' refurb. Steelcase please v2.

Its going back, shocking state. Left arm pad structure is split under the cover. Right arm has lost its positioning teeth, and there are cracks in the main bucket.

Basically, its fit for the skip only. The company is being good about it though, said they will exchange immediately.

replacement delivered, nearly as bad as the first. again they no quibble are sending a replacement.

But, JUST CHECK THE THING, PROPERLY CHECK IT. If the replacement is no good i am giving up and will just have to spend on a new.

The best bet is to go to somewhere to pick it the one you want. I had about a dozen to choose from, picked the best one I could find. Cleaned up a treat.

I think its good to get herman miller aerons with rips in the back or base. A few years ago I got 2 x aeron posturefits, each with a rip on the back, for £120 each. Then paid £40 for an unripped backs and theyve both been perfect ever since.

You say they're being good about it, but it seems a pretty dodgy business practice to be honest - they're probably fully aware that the chairs are ****, they're gambling on most people just accepting it

The refurb market is absolute ******* in the UK. It used to be better, most of the companies doing the 'refurbs' don't even shampoo the fabric. It's very expensive as well-being only 400 or so off the retail versions, which come with near lifelong guarantees. (25 years? I'll be long dead by then anyway) Recently bought a higher end Chinese made chair, but I'm considering sending it back. The quality is good, probably above what I expected, but I do have some nagging safety concerns which are most likely irrational, but still.
