Stupid clocks go stupid forward this weekend.

baiting the birds ? it's true ... maybe someone can find a graph showing sun-rise point relative to the clock time throughout the year.

birds don't get up as early later in the summer as it gets lighter earlier , probably sitting on their eggs or want a lie in from looking after chicks.

I genuinely think a political party could get in with this as a single item manifesto.

This and Sunday trading hours to go in the bin.
Sunday trading hours are stupid, visited my sister in Ireland and the supermarkets were open same times on Sunday as any other day, and they like their sundays.

This was discussed in the October thread.

In GMT the sun rises and sets pretty much exactly equally before and after midday (almost like that name accurately describes what it is) whatever time of year it is.

As a society, we decided we don't like mornings though, so set up all our typical time based structures biased towards the afternoon - 9-5 working, shops opening etc.

As a result, on GMT, there's always more light 'before work' than 'after work' because we're collectively stupid like that, so we choose to offset time itself over the summer to try and compensate.

It's clear some people prefer GMT and some prefer BST. So the only way to make this fair is to alternate it every week, throughout the year. Then everyone would be happy.

I think it should be based on a game of rock, paper, scissors and communicated via Chinese whispers.

i get why people do not like the change, however I must admit i am looking forward to the lighter evenings.... It also means my house battery will now almost certainly make it till my cheap electricity every day now, except perhaps sunday if i do a sunday roast (in which case i will charge my car then to get early cheap leccy).

possibly an edge case reason to keep BST however :D

Will get times back to normal when watching Us based streamers, had 3 weeks of them starting a 'hour early'

Huh ? it gets lighter earlier in BST

weirdly, when it first switches to BST, it gets darker in the morning, but as you get more months in to the summer, it defenatly gets lighter earlier

in the winter, it doesnt get light until about 7-8am

in the summer, i have woken up at 4-5am and its already getting light

It gets lighter in the morning as sometimes in summer i go out for a bikeride at 6am - and its light, if i do that in winter, it would be dark

So what you actually want to ban is summer. Fair enough, just need to sort out the tilt of the Earth problem.

Just have sunrise and sunset at the same time yer round duh? Can’t be that hard to sort out. /s just in case.

This is the way forward. Couldn't be done back in the manual clockwork days, but with AI and modern clocks being on computers and assorted smart devices this will be a piece of cake. Just need to constantly adjust the length of each second during day/night cycle to ensure that dusk and dawn fall at the same time every day.

Not sure them making it at 2 and 3am instead is what you're going for though is it?

No, i would prefer if they were yapping after i have woken up

There is nothing worse than being woken up at 3am by seaguls sending out their warning signals,

Song Thrushes, Blackbirds and Robins are among the first to rise, i usually hear these around 4-5am, then between 5am to 6am the wood pigeon starts,

I don't mind wood pigeons, they are nice to eat , and their sounds are quite nice

its the yappy tiny ones i cant stand. Once the start sounding , and if it wakes me up, that’s it, pillow is straight over my head.

There is a tree in my Neighbors garden and they sit in the tree and wont shut up.

Its the change that annoys me.

Stick to one or the other throughout the whole year with no changing back and forth and either is fine tbh
