**AMD 9950X3D Owners Club**

Finally got mine up and running temps look fine using a Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE. Only issue I have got with this cooler is the fans they seem to be letting off some kind of very low buzzing noise.

I like the Debug LED giving you the temp of the CPU.

Just got another 9950x3d. Contemplating doing a Sff build with it for lulz. I already got two large cases for my other pc's and fancy something dinky. Haven't done a SFF build in years. Or having a dedicated test bench. Undecided at the moment.

How many systems does one man need:cry:

So got my new 9950X3D.
Temps are still high but not as high as other chip.

There is clearly something wrong with something.
But then my 9950X ran at low 30's temp wise when idle - It is only the 9950X3D which is behaving weird.

I reckon it is possibly either a driver issue or a BIOS issue.

What cooler ?

What cooler ?

Corsair H170i LCD

Thermal paste - I have tried everything:
Noctua NT-2
Thermal Grizlly
Artic MX-2, MX-4 and MX-6
I understand the application might not be correct once but not 5 times on the original chip and then twice on the new chip.

Other specs:
Fractal Mesifiy 2 XL
Asus X870E Crosshair Hero
RTX 5090FE
2x WD SN850X SSD
1000W Corsair AX1000i PSU
Soundblaster AX-7

I don't know the temps of everything at the moment - But will post later tonight.
Just find this very strange - My 9950X idled in the low 30s and barely ever touched 60c.

I can't imagine it is the thermal paste, and like you said, your 9950x had lower temps.

Have you installed latest AMD chipset drivers (from the AMD website, not the Mobo vendor site)?

This is an odd one and I hope you find a solution. I will install the same CPU later today. My current 7800x3d runs warmish at idle (c. 40), but, it is more important to focus on the working temperatures i.e. when they start to throttle the CPU. If you're not throttling the CPU, I would not worry about idle temps!

Have you got the fan placement set up as it should be?

My Phantom Spirit 120SE following a straight swap also had a terrible buzzing noise with this chip as it runs so hot so the fans run at higher rpm. However I had the fans placed differently (one middle, one rear push/pull) so I could see the rgb on my ram. Once I moved the fans back to how they should be (one front, one middle push/push) the noise went away, although the temps remain the same

I already have a 9800x3d (gaming and the usual stuff people do like youtube, browsing etc..) which runs cooler then my previous 7800x3d. I don't do any rendering, compiling or care about benchmarking

So I suppose this CPU would be wasted on me ?

Trying to convince myself out of buying it.
Unless you engage with a lot of productivity tasks ( which it sounds like you don't ) then this would be a pointless upgrade.

Was your 9950X idling in the low 30's whilst using the 5090 FE too ? Could the GPU be part of the problem ?

This is my thinking too..
I upgraded both components at the same time - It could be the GPU is causing the high temps.
I am going to remove it later and use the onboard to see what happens.

I have just swapped my CPUs (7800X3D to 9950X3D), pea-sized amount of thermal compound, loaded up HW monitor and the idle temps are virtually identical. In your case, I suppose the only other thing is to reinstall the old CPU to verify if that is now struggling: maybe the pump has coincidentally packed up. All very odd

Could be the FE blowing hot air onto the CPU, but could be a mobo issue
