The Radeon RX9070XT / RX9070 Owners Thread

Just installed the card and it's running badly on dead space remake :( Frame rate seems fine, but then I get lots of random freezes and lock ups. Seems ok on forbidden west though. I'm feeling I'm going to have to do a full reinstall of windows :(

Is it freezes during transitions? It's more likely core isolation in Windows causing the stuttering.

Seems pretty random. I used to get the odd hiccup on this game with my 3070, but it's pretty unplayable at times on the 9070xt.
Hmm OK sounds different to what I was this thinking. During loading / transition phases, core isolation causes stuttering. I think if moving from NVIDIA to AMD a fresh OS install is worthwhile.

God of war and forbidden west seem fine. Maybe dead space has issues on the 9070xt.

I did do a driver clean with DDU. Maybe a windows reinstall is for the best.

£799 MSI 5070 TI VENTUS OC ( Overclocked ) vs Sapphire NITRO+ 9070 XT £685 ( Overclocked )

That's 115£ difference, more performance, better cooler, no brainer.

***Note how inserting the 9070 XT it boosted my 5700X3d CPU clock by 50Mhz....intriguing...
They do get high scores in Timespy and Extreme. I hit 16333 on my GPU score with 15203 overall. https://www.3dmark.com/spy/54104152

They also beat them in Steel Nomad, put up a good fight in Port Royal but don't do so well in Speedway.

I've been getting the stutters too, mainly in 2042 and occasionally in F1 24. I have been trying to play GTA4 too which I realise is famous for how badly it ran but my 3070 managed it but the 9070XT is a nightmare on it (either vanilla or modded).

Also, the frame rate target control doesn't appear to be working for me, anyone else have this problem? I've got it set but games just ignore it :(

Going to have to do a windows reinstall I think :(

Windows update keeps trying to install Nvidia drivers despite my AMD card.

Make sure there are no hidden Nvidia devices in device manager.

You also need to 100% remove all 3rd party tools you had used to tweak your Nvidia GPU such as MSI Afterburner for example. Same for any RGB tools.

Look at your Windows startup list to see what apps are loading, one or more of them might be looking for an Nvidia GPU.

Go into steam and any other game market place and remove shader cache. Go into device manager and show hidden devices. Remove any nvidia drivers showing. Go into program manager remove any Nvidia programs. Run DDU in safe mode. Remove any Nvidia drivers on there.

Those with issues, it sounds like old shader caches. I had issues with deadspace on my old gre but shader cache flush sorted it.
This sounds very likely indeed, cheers.

I can tell the frame rate is high, even with max ultra settings, so I'm sure the card itself is fine. Definitely not a power issue either, as I recently replaced my PSU with a 1200w :p

If frame rate target doesn't work in certain games, toggle the Radeon Chill setting instead & set both min & max to the desired cap e.g. 60fps.

Do you use AMD Radeon chill? This is the best way to set a frame limit with limited latency impact. Games shouldn't ignore it if it is set in AMD control panel before launching the game. It can be set to individual games and works really well. Never had an issue woth my 7900 XTX and also works with my 9070 XT

Have you deleted your shader cache like others have suggested. Stutters are usually caused from corrupted shader cache.

After the poor reaper fans I'm back in the AMD camp, managed to get a gigabyte for MSRP. Typical that it happens after I caved an ordered a MSRP 5070ti that's due today but the price difference is too much to ignore. Just didn't think I'd get an MSRP card so quickly. Just hope the gigabyte is better than the reaper.
