BMW and M Power Owners

F80 is quite a spikey driving experience isn't it? If you don't need the rear doors, have a look at an M2 Comp (or LCI for better burbles).
Pre-comp is, yeah. Comp is mapped better, but standard MPSS tyres and the aggressive DCT 'box can make it a handful. GTS gearbox flash + CSC7 tyres make it much easier to live with day to day.

Need a 2nd car soon (have a b9 A4 Avant currently as our main car) and we are considering a 2019 Z4 30i. It’s mostly for my wife, she wants a sporty convertible. Test drove an 2020 ND2 MX5 and 2020 Audi TT 40 TFSI followed by the Z4, which she loved.

Any thoughts on these? They seem to be sitting around £25-27k for what we want. Tech, Comfort and M Sport Plus package ideally.

Something like this, but probably not white and a little less mileage.

Hopefully moving in the next 2-3 weeks so back on the search to decide. My eyes keep wandering to the Z4 M40i and that b58 6 cylinder.

This would scratch my itch for something a little more tasty while ticking the convertible box for the wife. Budget would need to up to £30k though.

Something like this, but not sure I could handle the superman colour combo.

or white

Red looks smart.

My 2019 M240i is due an engine oil service and the local BMW dealer is going to charge me £300 for it, seems pretty pricey for something he actually called a minor service. Happy to stick with that to maintain the service history but wondering what's the general consensus for cars of that age and going through independent / non BMW garages? I'm going to keep it at least another 2 years.

That's expensive. Check the online booking system for a few dealer groups around you. My M2 is sub £300 for a minor service.
Typically, dealers will price match other dealers.

Unfortunately they are by far the closest ones and it's pretty inconvenient to get to the others. I will ring them to see what they charge though.

Make sure that service scope (I Drive update to reflect the service) and disposal is included in the quotes, BMW play a silly game where they give you a quote via the site or app, and when you look into it there are mandatory extras they put on. Eg, a £60 brake fluid service is closer to £130 when those items are included.

£243 for my 440i for an oil+filter change at sytner

Approx £190 at a bmw specialist in hampshire.

I personally am not interested in maintaining full bmw service history. I bought a 335i with full main dealer sh and the engine blew up the next day.

Tha advantage of full BMW history is that the car will be eligible for BMW Insured Warranty. If your 335i had that, or an AUC warranty, BMW will have replaced the engine. Your local independent won't replace the engine for you.

Not entirely convinced that this is true. As long as the service schedule is met at a registered garage and theyre performed with genuine bmw parts which a specialist will do, I think you can still qualify for the insured warranty.

Even using an indy for servicing and repairs under the initial manufacturer warranty cannot invalidate the warranty as long as services are performed to schedule with genuine parts by a registered garage.

Yeah that's true, but it won't be AUC eligible. I have seen cases where under the Insured Warranty programme they've been funny about non-BMW dealer history. Personally, I've never had any issue with my local dealer service department, and for the slight increase in cost and piece of mind I've always used them. They also give me nice loan cars to try.

Your 335i issue is an extreme case, and whether a car is serviced at BMW or elsewhere has no bearing on how the owner looks after it, tops up oil when required, rags it from cold etc. That kind of car is unfortunately the type to attract the wrong sort of owner.

£260 at Sytner leicester on a 2019 M240i.
Rang up and they wouldn't price match as too far away.

I have confirmed this is all included.

I have to wait till mid May for the service if I want a courtesy car and the ones I've had in the past have been a bit disappointing. I'll stick with the dealer servicing for now. If you were to buy a 7 year old car would it bother you if not all services were done at a main dealer?

It depends whether it's a car I'd want insured warranty on or not. Even out of warranty, BMW are much more likely to assist with a goodwill gesture if the car has full BMW history vs being done at an independent.

What kind of MPG does 540i G30 do? Town/Motorway 60/40

Initial plan was to get a 530D G30, but doing some quick calculations e.g. 540i 30MPG vs 530d 40MPG, the difference in annual fuel cost isn't that big with annual mileage being around 7000-9000 miles, it won't be above 10k.

Going to view this on Saturday with my dad - https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202501248376280 Thoughts?

I on the other hand will be test driving M2 OG and M2C on Sunday, shame my local BMW dealer doesn't have M3 F80. Would be good to test drive all 3 the same day for a good comparison. :D

I had an inspection for my 2017 m240i at my local dealer two weeks ago, and despite trying, the service history on the car didn't update. I went back again today for them to try and it still didn't work. According to them, the last place (a bmw indy) to update it did something that is now preventing bmw from updating it, which would have been in 2023. Bmw can reset it but it would erase all previous history and just leave the latest service details in. I told them not to worry. I've got all the paperwork for services, including from previous owner, so I'm not overly concerned. Did i do the right thing?
