*** The Official Nintendo Switch 2 ***

Cant get a 5080 or 5090 for a reasonable price ... hopefully can get a Switch 2 surely ;)

To be honest the kids play with the Switch more than I do to be honest, but it is something shiny for me
I like the way they have given pre-orders some thought by prioritising existing customers ; also in the small print they say that the inclusion criteria is based on data before 31/3/2035, so people can't try and "game" the system by starting to use a Switch from now until launch.

I'm pretty sure I spend less than £75 a year on Steam games and I always have something to play!

I have to say this has been the most underwhelming Nintendo launch of a new console perhaps ever. SNES - large leap in graphics quality. N64 - possibly the largest leap in graphics between generations ever plus new controls. Gamecube - OK that was pretty meh. Wii - Very different but that made it interesting. Wii-U - HD graphics for the first time on Nintendo and the tablet had possibilities for interesting gameplay. Switch - totally unique, combining home and portable consoles together. Switch 2 - more of the same. Yawn.

I'll maybe buy one in 5 years when there is a decent library.

I suppose it depends if that's the new RRP as I don't think I can stomach £75, even though I don't buy many Switch games. It's just too much to justify for me.

That's the question was it just the RRP, £75 is about £20 to £30 more than what you can pick up Switch games for.

It was a pretty solid showing I think, some disappointing bits like pricing and upgrade game costs, but nothing really unexpected given how the industry is going. Not 100% sold on the mouse stuff, time will tell if that will actually be a decent feature or not.

There's nothing there yet that really entices me to buy one, it will probably be the second wave in a year or two with an OLED style model where I'll really assess whether it's worth it. With a bit of extra horsepower and things like AI upscalers/frame gen becoming more widely adopted, it might be able to pump out some decent visuals at respectable performance.

I was losing my mind a little bit when the Duskblood trailer was playing though, it looks like Sony have really dropped the ball there, that will no doubt gather a lot of attention.

So are they doing a lottery for people with at least Nintendo Online to get a link to pre-order?

I have had my Switch since day 1 along with whenever they started the online subscription and checked my privacy settings....

But I've not played it that much, recently I have lent it to my sister so my nieces have been racking up some hours on my behalf :D

Would be a suprising move to go for MicroSD Express, they're pretty niche. You wouldn't want to use the space as virtual/memory cache as the writes would eat up their endurance quite quickly.
Watching the direct, it does indeed seem they have gone for the SD express format. Need a new card for the Switch2, can't transfer the one from the current Switch

I think it has been and is going to be interesting seeing the reactions to this new Switch. I was very positive on that showing, but perhaps had different, or lower expectations. In all honesty Mario Kart 9 was always going to be a big draw for me. I've played MK8 & MK8 Deluxe for years now and it still continues to be a game me, or my daughters will play all the time. Something so tangibly and intangibly Nintendo. That said the ability to play the two Zelda's in 60 fps (I assume this is what was refered to as the 'better frame rates') and the Game Cube stuff now being more accessible is also good. Other Switch upgrade packs and games like the new Donkey Kong might be something I get to at some point.

But then I was one of those who went against the grain last time when Switch was finalised. As a Wii U customer I had already played the two big hitters that spearheaded that 2017 launch so wasn't day one on that. I think Nintendo is in a different place right now where they aren't fighting as much for their place, but have a very strong brand and as we move even more into services a more evolutionary offering. But under £400 for quite a powerful handheld gaming machine in 2025 is pretty reasonable no matter how you feel. Sure not the £280 Switch launch price, but it never was going to be as cheap for all the obvious reasons.

One thing that did stand out to me is third-party support; FC, Madden, Elden Ring, Borderlands 4, SF6 and more. It's clear Publishers expect this thing to be a success and existing multi-platform titles and the online infrastruture (i.e accounts, mtx etc.) is there to support the machine. That's not something Nintendo has had at launch in a long time.

My settings are 4 yrs, 9mths, 27 days online customer, receive surveys plus sharing usage data. So maybe a chance of meeting some of the criteria depending on specifics. I would trust ordering from the official store more than Amazon but we will see. If I don't get one day one I'll just wait it out similar to the PS5 and other consoles.

They should have stuck with OLED...

Mario Kart World looks good - it will be interesting to play that roaming mode!

But not sure that is quite enough to tempt a console purchase. Also the upgrades to BOTW and TOTK should be free for anyone who owns those on the Switch.

I watched the whole direct but I didn’t see anything that makes me want to preorder one especially with games at those prices. I think I will wait and see in a years time or something.
I can tell you now, I've waited five years to play the first switch 1 Zelda game at 1080p at 120hz and I am all over this switch 2. it's gonna sell like it's on fire.

can get gamepass ultimate for year for less money than a single switch 2 game. Crazy

Any info on actual graphic specs? Like what chip they are using etc

Seems expensive at $450 and as everyone says you know an OLED will come out eventually. It feels like a cynical move from Nintendo.

Edit - CP2077 on Switch should be hilarious!

Interesting, would be good to see wide adoption of the standard because faster micro SDs never really got adoption beyond UHSI except in cameras and were silly expensive.

No, it says as much in this article: "As is usually the case, Nintendo isn't saying much about the processor or graphics processing hardware. The company simply notes that the "Nintendo Switch 2 has significantly improved CPU and GPU performance over Nintendo Switch, resulting in faster processing speed and enabling new visually advanced gameplay. It also makes it possible to achieve more detailed graphics and faster loading times.""

making the larger screen OLED and making people carry large battery packs to make it through a flight would be cynical . sticking to a non oled screen pleases more than it upsets
