I think you’d have to be obtuse to say there
wasn’t a ‘grey line’ - we’ll all have our individual limits on what we feel comfortable with and we should respect that some people will feel differently.
But, I also think you’d have to be obtuse to not recognise that different games / films etc. have different contexts behind them.
The GTA series is a playbox, ‘mobster fantasy’ that has often has its tongue firmly in cheek, with humour and character development. Yes, it’s violent and can be depraved, within
that wider context. Even then, bits can be iffy such as the torture scenes.
‘War games’, COD etc., are effectively an overlay for ‘goodie vs baddies’ stories or ‘competitive sport’. Yes, it’s violent and can be depraved, within
that wider context. Again, bits can be iffy such as gunning down civilians.
Sometimes extreme violence can be funny - I’m thinking films like Deadpool or Braindead. It all depends on context.
Meanwhile, the context of the game in question (‘No Mercy’) is pretty much entirely obscene. It focuses on sexual exploitation and torture at its very core… that’s even before you get to the incest part (seriously, wtf?!).
People aren’t really suggesting that all of these things are ‘the same’… are they?!
Ultimately, even though there is subjectivity on the topic, I do think it’s right that some content ought to be prohibited for being obscene.
Tbh I assume anyone who buys stuff like that is
already on some sort of ‘monitoring list’.
