MSI MAG Tomahawk X870/X870E Owners Thread

Joined the club earlier this week with my build down below, but I learned of QVL after the fact... I'm having numerous intermittent issues with long boot times, sometimes booting with no video output (monitor in standby), one stick of ram not being detected, and sometimes booting into "Hardware changed (CPU or memory)... F1 to enter setup, F2 to load default values and continue...".

Most likely culprit it RAM incompatibility based on what I've read. I'm holding out for a BIOS update to add compatibility with this kit but given we're a few months in I'm unsure if this will materialise.

Overall a great spec and looking mobo, let down by my error.
  • AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D.
  • MSI MAG Tomahawk X870 WiFi.
  • Corsair Vengeance 64 GB (2 x 32 GB) DDR5 6000 CL30 (CMK64GX5M2B6000Z30).
  • AMD RX7600 (yes, huge bottleneck, but shall be upgraded soon).
  • Corsair RM1000x.

If I'm not wrong you have the same ram and mobo as me.

Have you plugged the ram in the right slots?

If you look at the mobo manual it says to plug them in to the following slots (A1 & B1) or (A2 & B2) (I cant remember which one though)

Good to hear someone else has this setup. Have you had any issues since your previous posts? Yes, I'm using DIMMA2 & B2 (2 & 4 left to right when looking at the mobo). I'm running 7E51v1A4 from 2025-03-26.

A2 and B2 indeed! From left to right in your normal mobo orientation, the second and fourth slot!

For people having black screens, be aware that the NVIDIA drivers (for both 30XX, 40XX and 50XX cards) are in a _dire_ state right now.
I've had some black screen issues myself and they can all be brought back to Nvidia driver problems with Gsync / HFR monitors.

This is the kit I'm using: Kingston FURY Beast DDR5 32GB (2x16GB) 6000MT/s DDR5 CL36 DIMM
It was pretty cheap on Amazon last year, I see prices have gone up a bit again. (In no way a top performer, but good enough(TM))

Non-EXPO profile was still having issues. Reverted to A30 BIOS (1 back from current A40) and still no luck. I'm going to send RAM, CPU, and mobo, back for testing because I don't have any spare components to A-B test with and diagnose. Looks like I pulled a bad something. Will keep you updated. Thanks for the help so far.

Okay, good luck man :)

Well mine has just stopped detecting any drives in all USB ports on the back but it's still detecting my USB mouse/keyboard.

I have even gone back to 7E59v2A4 from A5 and the problem hasn't been resolved not happy at all that I can't even use any of the USB ports surely MSI are looking into this issue it's a bit of a joke it's not been fixed.

That was a pain but strange, I uninstalled the AMD drivers and reinstalled it, it didn't work. Then I tried again and it worked!! all ports working again.

Staying on 7E59v2A4 until they release a newer BIOS I deleted the A5 version.
