Greenlizard0 Premier League Football Thread ** spoilers ** [12th - 16th April 2025]

Newcastle fans are getting a little big for their boots. Might have a bit of a come down when Isak leaves to go and win some trophies eh?
But we are wining Trophies :D

You seem to be suggesting that Newcastle is a one man team. Our last 9-10 goals in the league Isak has scored around one of them.

If Isak does move in it will be for a world record fee. We win either way. Newcastle probably the last club people want to enable a shopping spree :D

Spurs are so lucky Man Utd are performing as they are, there doesn't seem to be much chat around their season apart from the odd article here and there, also if the bottom 3 weren't so poor it would certainly be a lot more vitriol as both would actually be in danger of being relegated.

I think everyone accepts Ange is gone the moment the season ends, be it this Thursday or when the season factually ends.

What Trophies have you won? And you are in 4th place in the league and Isak has been vital to you this season. 20 goals, 6 assists. You are also currently behind Nottingham Forest.

As I said, I wouldn't get too carried away. Getting near the top isn't that hard. Getting to the top is where things start getting tricky.

Yeah was talking to my neighbour who's a Spurs fan yesterday and he said as soon as he started mocking the fans by cupping his ear it was a cert, he doesn't think he survives even if he wins the Euro Cup

We will continue to be bloody awful unless we sign two actual wingbacks, a decent 9, and a couple of midfield players with the physicality for the PL.

I really hope Zirkzee being crocked means Chido Obi can get some time in the remaining PL games....but I suspect Hojlund is going to stink the place out in an attempt to play himself into the tiniest bit of form so we can flog him off in the summer.
Central midfield remains the Gordian knot that it has since Keano **** the bed.

None of our players has the physicality required. Yes, think about that, none.
Casemiro - legs gone and probably never had the speed for this league
Eriksen - we signed a player with a heart defect at the end of his career that can't tackle and is slower than a slow thing
Mainoo - has shown he can't really play in a two man midfield. Lacks stamina, injury prone, probably not got his "man strength" yet
Ugarte - the closest we have but he's a bit like a South American Nicky Butt . Every squad needs one but you couldn't build a team around him. Harsh?? Oh and he's not fit enough consistently
Fernandes - has the engine, vision but lacks the presence and strength to compete when it's a battle.
Mount - No-one is going to trust him where it's combative and requires tackling - he's got the same DNA as Martial, Hargreaves
Collyer - He's looked ok but nothing better than that and he's always injured.

So we have 7 players and only one might be ok for the role. That means we need at least two.

Tbf I don't even think Utd are getting as much flack as they deserve and I'm not just saying that as a Liverpool supporter enjoying Utd getting abuse. Big sides (and by big I'm not including Spurs) have had poor seasons before but that usually means finishing 5th to 8th. I can never remember a club the size of Utd ever being as bad as this one and in mid April being 14th in the League. Looking at the table it's hard to see how Utd could finish above 13th but could possibly finish as low as 17th. For it to even be possible for Utd to finish 17th this season is absolutely mental. Can you imagine the reaction had Real, Barca or Bayern had the season Utd are having? Everybody is already sacked and I don't mean like Ratcliffe sacking the cleaners - manager, coaches, directors of football and the board are all gone. It would be front page news and mass protests every week.

Problem we've got is Amorin's system can only work in the PL if you've got absolutely top class players that have the physicality and engine to execute it. Lacking that, you just get bullied by more physical, harder pressing teams, which is most in the PL.

It's been great to watch their decline but the coverage is getting stale now, Keane must be getting fed up (outside of the ££££££ Sky pay him) of repeating the same points over and over again. You get a sense of déjà vu watching some of the pre- and post-match stuff.

I think the relative lack of drama stems from two things:

1. I think people recognise the players aren't anywhere near good enough, particularly in attack. Yes they could be doing better, but top 8 is probably out of the question. What the players cost isn't really relevant as we've horribly overpaid for most of them. Injuries have really not helped matters but I don't think you can just blame that all the time - the best sides seem to have less injuries...

2. There is a realisation that the Glazers really don't care what's said about them, and Ratcliffe is now taking most of the flak. I don't think he cares either, whatever he might say. He wants a big fancy stadium complex and what happens on the pitch comes second to that.

There isn't a serious enough appetite for protests and disruption on the scale required to really change any of this. So we're left hoping for a good summer of recruitment, and that Amorim turns out to be a great manager after this initial difficult spell.

Re the above.

Apart from Liverpool who are winning this at a song. There are so many competitive teams, more so than ever imo.

So if your game is not on point, you get found out. It's as simple as that.

Just want a few shrewd signings come the summer. And just see how it goes...

If it goes badly, then I will have to take up another sport. Extreme knitting or something.

The relative lack of drama is because nobody thinks the club is going to be turned round overnight. I expect 2-3 years before we could hope to compete for the PL.

People still seem happy/look forward to matches. How standards have dropped.

That’s Somewhere you will never be ever again, from now on you will be closer to relegation than the title, Brexit Jim going bigger and better than Mike Ashley and the glazers miking millions year on year, let’s be honest it couldn’t happen to a more deserving club.
