Reasons why countries need to de-couple from the US.

Sony isn't even a US company but they are screwing everyone over just to protect America.....why?!?!! The pretend "world leader"
The US is a big market for them, to be fair. But they shoudn't protect it to the detriment of everyone else. People won't forget and might not be so quick to pick up a PS6 next gen ; I've read lots of posts on reddit from people from Australia & NZ cancelling their PS Plus subs where the price hikes have already taken effect.

Quick question. I just bought a PS5 along with the disc version of Gran Turismo 7 (PS5 version). It has installed the contents of the disc to the PS5 and it is now downloading an update from the internet 120GB in size. The problem is that it will not download this update in rest mode. I put it in rest mode and when I switch the PS5 back on it hasn't downloaded anything. I have enabled all the settings for rest mode in the settings menu and have tried both WiFi and ethernet but nothing seems to make downloading in rest mode work.

Has anyone else come across this issue because it is a bit of a pain to have to leave the PS5 fully powered up every time I need to download a big game?

Except Sony are not acting in isolation, everyone will do it; Nintendo, Apple, Microsoft, Google, Amazon, Nvidia, all of the PC AIB/OEMs etc. They will limit their losses if the world's largest market goes through a huge downturn. Not to say that people won't cancel PS Plus, or Game Pass etc. But it might just be another factor in the reasons to do so.

Have sold my XSX. Hanging onto my PS5 for now I think. I suspect I’ll use it for some exclusives, although with my backlog they’ll likely be on PC the time I get to them.

Most will still pickup the PS6, the difference being that it’s going to be a fair bit more expensive than the PS5.

Sold mine at the start of the year too. Hardly used it throughout 2024, and with a PC I don't feel I'm missing out on anything Microsoft/Xbox wise. As for the PS6, I'm sure millions will buy it ... but there are so many factors that could decimate sales eg. global economy crash, Sony being greedy and bumping prices in UK/Europe/Asia to offset the US market, expensive launch price eg £999. Who knows how it's going to play out ? The video game industry is in a bad place and none of the major players are showing themselves in a good light at the moment.

The issue is US gamers. It’s always US gamers because we always pay up when we’re asked to.

There was a time when mice, keyboards weren’t that expensive, until companies slapped fancy ‘gaming’ tags on everything ie chairs, peripherals etc causing prices to rocket. Marketing is also superb at making us FOMO.

Same goes for gpus, phones and games. We keep on paying what we’re asked to pay and in app purchase and subscriptions are part of our daily lives now. I mean Sky want me to pay £4.99 for 4K - gtfo, what year is it?!

It’ll never end because there are always folks out there willing to pay for all the above without any thought.

GTA6 will raise the bar for the ‘standard’ game package and companies like Ubisoft will join the bandwagon too.

Steam at least gives us a reprieve here with its frequent discounts.

That may be true regards FOMO, but I do feel that the video gaming industry is beginning to shift into uncharted waters where the price of entry is beyond the average person ( due to cost of living crisis, wages lagging behind inflation etc ). When people, en masse, legitimately can't afford games/hardware the consequences for the likes of Sony, Nintendo etc could be catastrophic. There's always someone who says " ah, but console games back in the early 90's, adjusted for inflation, were just as expensive" - which is true to an extent, but the cost of living and purchasing power of wages were better then , plus gaming is much more mainstream now which should, in theory, help keep the cost to the consumer down. Steam is an exception, and has been for a decade or more, with regular deep sales ... but even the PC space is being hamstrung by rapidly escalating costs for components, especially GPUs. Something is going to give in the next few years ... we're going to see at least one major company crash hard.

Picked up Indiana Jones to help this miserable wet Easter Weekend, but man it gives me big time motion sickness!? Anyone else experienced this? Never in my life have I got motion sickness from a normal FPS game but something weird about this makes me queasy in like 10 minutes. Their is an option for reduce screen shake but it doesn't seem to make a difference, also no FoV slider and it's extremely narrow which doesn't help.

Shame as its quite fun but I can't have a proper session on it.

That's a shame. Can't say I experienced any motion sickness when I played it on Game Pass. How close are you to the screen ?

Used to get it from Doom on the Atari Jaguar - just kept pushing myself, and it went away. Only time I've ever had that issue in gaming - mind you, being an old fart now, it's probably a different story

Not me mate, downloading in rest mode always works well for me. Not being facetious but have you restarted the console after making the settings changes?

Yes I've tried restarting. Do you think it has something to do with the game being disc based? I managed to download the Digital version of Astro Bot in rest mode as well as a few game demos. GT7 is the only disc based game I have to test.

How much free storage space have you got on your PS5? I've had issues in the past with downloads failing because I didn't have enough space. PS5 needs a fair bit more available space than the download size. Usually double because it downloads the entire game separately and then overwrites the existing. So for GT7 you will likely need around 240gb+ free storage space in order to download that update.

Nothing to do with being disc based - all my games are disc based and still update in rest mode.

On the drive I was installing GT7 I had around 500GB free space. I also have a 1TB NVME installed in the expansion slot. Could that 1TB drive be causing an issue?

Strange. It isn't a huge problem but it is annoying. I will do some more digging on the internet to see if anyone else has had this issue.
