EV general discussion

They generally can track personnel and locations via GPS. Both of their homes and work locations. Very hard to have a secret base when everyone's wearing GPS. Also the microphone in everything listening to everything.

I pity the Chinese operative who has to sit and listen to the absolute drivel I come out with at work… :D

Drove an EV for the first time today (Long range MG4 trophy).

Loved it. Really liked how smooth the power delivery is, and it seemed surprisingly well built/reasonably refined for the money (obviously it wasn’t amazing and up to the standard of more premium cars, but it was good considering the cost). It also handled far better than i thought it would. Felt a bit quicker than the 0-60 time suggests too to be honest.

Why aren’t we all driving these? :p I'm definitely a convert.

You just need to convince the petrol heads who love the roar of a v8, whist driving around in a qashqai on the school run

Budget of £15-20k for an electric car, big enough for family, drive 60 miles per day. Would love to find a few toys like adaptive cruise control but acknowledge possible champagne taste with prosecco budget...

Would you risk it on an older Tesla or I Pace, or any other recommendations? Would appreciate any pros or cons on the above, or alternatives, thanks!

ID.3 58kWh can be had in that price range. Or the 77kWh versions with 4 seats. ACC as standard in most

ID.3 is a bit on the small side for a family car i think. Plus isn't much of a looker (subjective i know) and on top I think it was on a list published of cars to avoid due to possible Chinese spyware.

‘Big enough for family’ could use some clarification, but a Polestar 2 can now be found in that price range, is based on the XC40 platform and has ACC with the pilot pack (look for the front fog lights)

Rear room isn’t huge though.

Some good value Polestar 2s around now. You will get a nice one for that budget. I think they have decent specs and importantly for some they are not a Tesla.

Polestar 2

Too many nightmare reliability stories about the Jag for me to risk one that has no warranty.

eNiro? That budget will get you a 21/22 plate with 40-50k miles by the look of it

What is the polestar 2 like to insure? Not sure if i saw in the high 30's insurance category.

I would not mind one, my only issue would be around warranty.

That's why I keep getting drawn to either Kia or Toyota.

You’d have to run your own quotes to be honest - mine didn’t jump up hugely or anything.

Mine is the single motor version though - about 230bhp. The dual motor is about 400 ish…

Yeah, single motor would do me fine. Insurance would certainly jump up if going for dual inwould imagine.

How about warranty though? Do you have any or can you extend it?

Model 3 is the other obvious ‘go to’ for a large family car.

Pretty sure all the usual (but by all accounts decent) ‘SUVs’ are dipping into the £20k point now, Kia EV6, Hyundai Ionic V, VW ID.4, Skoda Enyak, Ford Mustang Mach-e to name a few.

It’s bigger than a polestar 2!

Why is it. They are pretty small in the back with the low roof line
