EV general discussion

If they have been banned by the MOD it means GCHQ has most likely found something suspicious. It's only a matter of time before someone else hacks their way in as the CCP doesn't really care about the security of it's victims.
So... can you actually tell me what actual negative impact you think buying an ID3 could have on your life?

Quite a big one if you happen to work on a base lol

Also it's not a very good advert for the brand... JLR is a British brand and is now sanctioned by the British defence sector. No chance of any more sales or contracts to any country's defence sector now,

Smaller car, smaller boot so in what way is the id3 bigger?
Higher and loads more headroom in the back. 25 L extra doesn’t help when in back seats. Look at folded down rear seat capacity for idea

Have you sat or been inside either ?

One minute they are Indian, next they are British. Make your mind up

So if you don't work on a base like 99.9% of the UK population.... no impact at all.

Thanks

This is the kind of complacency that means they become more and more intrusive, no one should be OK with it. Not to mention while the impact might be low or none now if there are vulnerabilities doesn't mean that will always be the case.

Exactly.

Unfortunately most like him won't care.

I should point out it’s just the MOD supplied cars which are being stopped - the ones issued to sections for their work duties or hired for duty journeys.

No-one is stopping my spyware infested Polestar from driving onto MOD property and someone having to go through all the nonsense I spout at work.

I’d imagine they know it all already anyway…

does this mean in the next series of slow horses they will no longer be driving range rovers then?;

the thing is. in truth I have no idea if VW and jlr cars are loaded with spyware. maybe they are, but if they are I think it's a fair bet plenty of other devices will be as well. what tech these days doesn't have a huge Chinese influence in?

no point banning range rover whilst using a phone from China or posting via social media (it's not just Chinese social media with a dodgy history of abusing data)

They'll care if a 3rd party exploits whatever backdoor the Chinese built in to it and shut the cars down with ransomware.

At the end of the day you don't know what might happen. Why buy it when so much choice else where.

do you genuinely believe that will happen? if so you need thicker tinfoil for your hat

There have been bigger hacks. These EVs are all hooked up to the internet, aren't firewalled and never patched, so it's only a matter of time before someone finds an exploit.

The charging infrastructure is also known to be vulnerable.

Since when was internet connected cars just an EV thing? Many modern cars have internet connections, particularly high end ones.

Yes but there is a lot less you can mess about with remotely on non-EVs...

You also cannot compromise them via a petrol pump. People have proven remote hacks on EVs via the chargers. You can get inside someone's home network as well if you can get physical access to the charging point (and most are mounted in full view on people's houses). None of it has been built with security in mind.
