Doctor Who

If Doctor Who was a person, the last few years have been comparable to beating them within a inch of death and then keeping them alive on life support, while also putting them in a dress and applying blackface.

Well yesterday's episode 'The Well' was utterly brilliant. Lots of positive reactions and an outstanding surprise sequal to a 10th Doctor Story that is highly rated.

A lot darker with a good couple of jump scares.

Before I say what I thought of the latest episode, can someone tell me if I'm supposed to be offended by it please.

So they ran out of ideas and had to revisit what makes a good episode?

Ran out of ideas lol. How cute.

Any other time if they bring back an iconic baddie or link back to something it's good or brilliant. Now you've resorted to 'they've run out of ideas'

This series has so far been new and unique ideas, same for next week, though Think Tank looks like it's back from the 3rd or 4th doctor I think it was so sure you'll moan about lack of ideas again, rather than keeping continuity.

Okies, I know there's been some criticism from the internet in recent years ("woke agenda"), but I thought I'd give season 2 a go with an open mind. The last episode I saw was the 2023 Christmas special with the goblins with was mostly just light hearted fun.

I've just seen The Robot Revolution and I quite enjoyed it. I think Ncuti Gatwa is fairly good as a Doctor and I dig his TARDIS. The music score is pretty immersive, more so than I remembered in the past, and I liked the special effects. The opening title sequence / music is great. My main criticism though is that the term "AI" is over-used in day to day life. There have been lots of robot villains in Doctor Who over the decades and I don't think the term AI had to be used. It seems to be a bandwagon thing. Being hard of hearing, subtitles helped massively as the language was strange at time, but it was meant to be like that as it was a mechanic for the storyline. I thought the story itself was ok though :-) In previous Doctor Whos, did they ever open the TARDIS while in outer space? Surely they would have got sucked outwards due to the pressure change. Maybe a property of the TARDIS kept them inside.

In nu Who they've often opened the TARDIS doors in space. There is a shield around it that protects them.

Another decent episode, enjoyed that.

However, full on crying from the Doctor in the first few minutes - why?! What's with all the crying?

Don't know if it was a nod or just a full on rip off of Aliens! How many cololonists? Hand held scanners and made me laugh, "nuke them from orbit" line!

Also, the companion has more screen presence than Ncuti :( If they can do away with the 'message', get a new Doctor and keep up with this seasons standard of writing, then DW may have a chance of surviving.

Just realised Bel is the assassin in Andor - thought I recognised her!

I get the feeling the crying is part of a longer story arc due to how much it's included, like the bees being missing. Tears... Mrs Flood... Mr Russell bringing back River because he's stuck for ideas and trying to appeal to the fanbase?

It was a better story this week, had the usual snide referrals to inclusivity (it's the law, but only for certain people while everyone else has a reasonable workaround) but at least it was part of the story and made it more interesting, although it still felt like it was a lecture on do and do not, similar to the first two episodes around consent and race.

Oh yes

Probably the best episode of his run so far but it was still just okay.
Was good bringing back a "villain" from a great episode but wasn't a fan how it was so different. Liked the ending being grim. Although it felt like it was a completely different creature and they just slapped midnight on for nostalgia sake.

He has zero presence though, all the doctors (from Eccleston onwards, Jodie didn't happen) all had intimidating moments where your like "oh ****" let's follow that guy if we want to live and multiple aspects to their personality. Tennant probably the best in this regard, Matt Smith also had some good bits. Ncuti would fall to his knees crying if you used a bad word and is very one dimensional.

Stop. Crying.

So far Ncuti is getting reconed as well. The whole timeless children noncense deserves to be deleted from existence.
Peter's run wasn't great, good actor but awful writing most the time (Bill specifically mentioning a certain something every other episode, just encase we forgot or it wasn't obvious) , but still felt like the doctor at least.
Heaven Sent was amazing.

So an episode without the Doctor and when he does appear gives a weak ass speech. When the Doctor makes a speech, alien civilisations fear him, a pathetic human just laughed it him - sums it all up really!

Interesting episode and current wrt the 'auditors' on Social Media, but i don't get Conrad's motivation. As a boy he saw the TARDIS materialise, he saw Ruby 2 decades ago and she hasn't aged when he sees her again - yet he calls, 'special effects'?

Passable, but meh episode.

I'm sure thats always been the case where its aimed at families and kids. It's never been marketed and targeted at adults.
I’ve not seen a really good episode since “Blink”. The current series is waiting to be watched but it’s seems aimed at 9 year olds so I may not bother.
Ok this is very weird because I wrote the above comment before I started watching the new series. We got round to watching the first two episodes and thought they were much better but then things got very strange when the blink reference came. I’m sticking with it.
