NVIDIA RTX 50 SERIES - Technical/General Discussion

Right after updating to latest gfx driver and upping voltage on dram to 1.41500 things seem a little better. Ill post back either way soon, anyone with further ideas please post to help me, I appreciate it very much
Is that the first time you have used the latest driver?

Anyone got a fix for the 5090FE at idle on the web no youtube or anything the fan just ramps up for 20sec then goes off again it keeps doing this and ramps to like 1200rpm the gpu temp shows no change nor the load.

Nothing at all comes up and it crashed with the oldest driver I could find, jan 30th. a lot of the games did crash with codes but dying light 2, a game I played lots with this exact pc n my 3090 crashes regular and within a minute. Never crashed once with my 3090, then again nothing did. Its definately the card but ive tryed so much im running out of ideas
What does it say in event viewer at the time of the crash / lock ups ?

Power settings switch to normal? reduce framerate to 60Hz restart PC and put back to normal frame rate.

ok I was playing outlast trials and got a ue4 crash this time, heres what it said

Crash in runnable thread TaskGraphThreadNP 2

Sounds like the card is faulty, I'd return it and try a different card.

Yes, assuming it is a gen 5 lane on the motherboard with that option then. Also, are you using a riser cable. Let's assume not.

Setting the PCIe Generation:
If the option is available, choose "Gen 5" for your primary PCIe x16 slot if you have a Gen 5 GPU and your motherboard supports it.
If you're using a Gen 4 GPU or a riser cable, you can set the BIOS to Gen 4 or Gen 3, respectively.
If you encounter instability or other issues, try switching back to Auto or a lower generation.
There are gen 5 riser cables, I use one too.

Im not sure what you mean by riser cables, is that the new pci-e cable, ive got one, used it, had same problem so now im trying adapter. Just tryed crysis n got another memory access violation error, which seems to be a common thread here. Ill have to wait for tuesday and ask for a replacement, do you know if they would deliver that and collect this same time or do I have to send it back for bloody testing first. That will be a nightmare

btw how do I know if the card is gen5?

The 50 series cards are gen 5, and will try to use gen 5 on your motherboard if the motherboard supports it and you have the gen option set to auto in the bios (it's usually auto by default).

To check what your card is running at, open up GPU-Z and it'll tell you next to "Bus Interface". It'll say PCIe x16 5.0 if its running at Gen 5.

If it's showing as Gen 5 you should try dropping it to Gen 4 in your motherboard bios as others have recommended as it can cause instability elsewhere. I've actually been fine with my 5090 running at Gen 5. I had no end of USB issues when Gen 4 first came out when I got my 3080 though, had to disable it for almost a year until AMD came out with a bios update that finally fixed it.

I undervolted my 5090 FE to 0.895 @ the max of 2800 something mhz and and overclocked memory to the max of 2000 mhz. No performance loss in Indiana Jones, saving 80-110 watts, and running anywhere between 5-8c cooler on both the chip and memory. Steel Nomad score was a few % better than stock too. Helldivers 2 crashed once (had to hard reset PC) but that game is pretty buggy, Indiana Jones had occasional flicker when transitioning into bright areas of the game (HDR Dolby Vision is on). Not sure if related to UV or just buggy software

Also don’t know if others have this issue but GPU-Z is reporting the pixel and texture fill rate incorrectly, about 40-50% less than where they should be. My performance is in line with all the average benchmarks published, so it seems like a bug with GPU-Z or Nvidia drivers? Not sure

Well after looking up it was a memory access violation I decided to try my sticks in a diff socket but sadly the pc wouldnt post, so I swapped them into each others socket and although im not saying its f ixed it sure seems like it! :) 3 games down all with some good time gaming. Thankyou all for your help so far, hope this sticks

Ok, I need your opinions guys.
Today ive used the card in vr and tv gaming, probably 4 hrs worth mayb 5 and ive experienced one crash. Again it was in outlast trials and again it posted a ue5 crash with access violation.
Do you think I should push ahead with a swap if ocuk offers me that or do you suggest I test some more and see if more crashes r forthcoming.
If anyone is able to understand the Event Viewer I could post what happens there if needed.

Thankyou all for your help, this is a great forum

I was getting random black screens and crashes from one of my GPUs and in the process of a return at the moment. If it's just one game, could just be a UE5 issue which always crop up.
