NVIDIA RTX 50 SERIES - Technical/General Discussion

Hi I received my msi trio 5090 about a week ago now and ever since all ive had is a nightmare. It crashes about 15mins into literally every game and ive tryed a lot of things online to fix it. Does anyone have a idea on what I should do? Any fixes your aware of, is this the norm? or once again have I been delt a duff? Thanks guys

Check PCIe isnt set to auto. I was getting constant crashes until I changed it to 4.

Im not sure but I think changing to the adapter which came with the card may of fixed it, ive just played for 40-45 mins on days gone without crashing, further testing needed

Would gen5? be the option, I just changed it to that along with making pcie the main gpu option.
Yes, assuming it is a gen 5 lane on the motherboard with that option then. Also, are you using a riser cable. Let's assume not.

Setting the PCIe Generation:
If the option is available, choose "Gen 5" for your primary PCIe x16 slot if you have a Gen 5 GPU and your motherboard supports it.
If you're using a Gen 4 GPU or a riser cable, you can set the BIOS to Gen 4 or Gen 3, respectively.
If you encounter instability or other issues, try switching back to Auto or a lower generation.

I just put it to auto and game crashed within 20 secs, I mean im so sick of this, you pay £2600 and then have to spend a week trying to fix it n then you just can not. Yeh im asking for a return, nvidia have let me down badly this time

Yeh dying light 2 jus crashed to desktop, so changing to adapter n those settings did not fix it :(
I'd rule out other issues first.

Does it benchmark OK, pulling max watts?
Are you on the latest non beta driver clean install?
Default gpu settings just now?
PSU ok?
PSU cable ok?
No riser cable?
Ram settings?
Can be lots of things.
Including gpu, but a replacement could have same issue if it's elsewhere in pc...

The pc was fine until I got this card so that just doesnt make sense that it could be elsewhere, along with all the other reports of crashing with these cards. I clean install using ddu, ive tryed 4 diff drivers. My psu is a 1200w asus thor platinum, and ive now tryed the single and adapter leads. Ram settings are set as they were before at standard. I realise it could be lots of things but im running out of ideas, im not the best pc person so any help would be greatly appreciated. Ill try another driver but I do not like the idea of having only the choice of one driver from january.

Yes, but now a pcie 5 card. Does sound like a driver issue as the psu and supplied cables should be fine. But lastest 'should' have resolved earlier driver issues. There may be more info/help on the driver thread?
Does it crash on benchmarking as well?

Had a similar problem when i got my 5090 a couple of months ago. the card was unstable using Gen 5 in the bios and was advised to change it to Gen 4 which fixed the issue. Haven't changed it back to Gen 5 since theres no real performance difference. perhaps you've tried this already ? i mean dont use Auto or Gen 5 option in the bios, use the Gen 4 option.

Update your motherboard BIOS if its not been mentioned already, when it comes to the latest cpu and gpu its worth checking that in case the latest revision helps.

Ive just reinstalled windows, now im going to try gen 4 as suggested. I believe im on the latest of my motherboard bios already, asus strix z790-f gaming 2. Ill check tho. only benchmarking ive done was one run of 3d mark, did not crash

Edit: I always get a bad draw of things. Currently rolling back to jan 30th driver. Otherwise im gunna have to ask for a refund or swap :(

Do you have a driver crash error code or anything to go off?
Nothing at all comes up and it crashed with the oldest driver I could find, jan 30th. a lot of the games did crash with codes but dying light 2, a game I played lots with this exact pc n my 3090 crashes regular and within a minute. Never crashed once with my 3090, then again nothing did. Its definately the card but ive tryed so much im running out of ideas

Ok I realised I had a oldish bios so I updated it thionking this would surely fix it right, wrong it still crashes and this time I was under water n all the textures elongated like I was on a mad trip creating a mad blur effect. Im close to giving up, ill try a newer driver now and then try mayb giving 0.15 volt to my ram

Right after updating to latest gfx driver and upping voltage on dram to 1.41500 things seem a little better. Ill post back either way soon, anyone with further ideas please post to help me, I appreciate it very much
