Local councils should be banished for stealing from the public

I once appealed a bus lane charge when we drove somewhere unfamiliar down in Bath. I won due to insufficient signage among other things.

Where were you??

What do you mean? i was in the car, approaching the traffic lights,

the statement about the sun was in rererence to someone saying the cameras were easily visible, they are not really, as you approach the traffic lights, the sun that beams back off the building infront of the traffic lights (the tower building) is quite strong, making it hard to see properly also, the camera is mounted up higher, thus to see it you would be taking your eyes off road level visuals and looking up

there should be better signage way before approaching this section of road

the markings on the road are at the last second. Thus being too late

There should be signposts way before the end of the road where the road markings are

there are not

I'd like councils to paint bus lanes (or should I say lay bus lanes?) in a different colour road surface. I think they do this abroad? A red, or a blue, would be great and increase their visibility vastly. Council here just keeps it all same colour and some of the lanes are badly faded. If anything it would make the roads look smarter too.

A few towns and cities paint short ones and bus gates, usually green but leave long ones as normal tarmac

Careful what you wish for on that one. There's a temporary bus lane in MK like that, where the council had it painted/coated in green. Years later they have never once resurfaced it and it's full of pot holes, and uneven from all the broken patches of coating: Google maps

So now despite only being a bus lane for a few hours a day, no one uses it because it's bone shaking to drive over. In all my years living here I've also never once seen a bus using it.

I have rechecked this road .the only sign that states about the bus lane . Is the road marking which is too late to visibly I'd.. by the time you see it your already in the bus lane.

Also signs the only sign stating that the right hand lane is a bus lane.. is the sign just to the right hand side of the road. ( Blue sign on the left . Which is positioned just after the bus lane starts.

There is no prior sign on the road on the approach to the bus lane stating bus only lane ahead

I have video evidence of this that I took whilst riding my bike on this road approaching the lights..

Is this good enough ground to appeal ? Surely they should have signs and warnings before you get to this bus lane

before i had satnav i drove to visit a mate in London and i accidentally went in a bus lane. I was totally inexperienced of driving in a packed city and was horribly lost. Add to that the aggressive drivers not letting me change lanes to correct my mistake.

I ended up with a fine and a few weeks to pay before it doubled. it annoyed me no end at the time but, rightly or wrongly i had gone in the bus lane so mea culpa. i hope you dont get caught but if you do i think you need to sack up, pay it and consider it a life lesson.

i am not judging your driving or awareness.. like i said, i have been there too!.

I have been there too albeit on a different road.. however. Th should be giving clear notice your approaching . .
I'll paste my YouTube video in abit once uploading showing you the approach

The sign on the left is the only standing sign there and the sign is in the ground on a pole but it is positioned after the bus lane starts.

Imo it should be positioned about a minimum of 10 to 15 meters before a bus lane starts

If I end up getting a fine so you think there is any grounds to appeal? There are no signs approaching. Only at the very last minute. And also..no road markings warning you as approach. Only a faint road marking pretty much 5-8 meters at the lights where you have to stop by which point it's too late..

When the issue happened. If I'm on on camera .they will see that I noticed right at the last minute. They would also have me indicating left.. so I noticed right at the last minute as there was no adequate warning approaching .. I corrected my mistake by turning left when the lights went green ..but at this point it was too late.. .

So to summerise....because there was not adequate prewarning I accident drove in to the bus lane road on a bank holiday weekend Sunday..

I got the lights. Realised eventually.. did not turn right which is for buses and taxis. But stuck my indicators left and turned left when the lights went green

Is it likely I will get a letter and is it likely I could appeal ?
I'm actually very familiar with this junction. It has been this way for some time and badgering the council in your appeal is very unlikely to do much.

Cardiff council will give you no quarter when it comes to fines around traffic. You could seek out the local Cardiff MP but it's a lot of effort rather than just learning the lesson and not going that way. The Cardiff markings used for bus lanes are consistent.

Your only hope is that someone reviews the recording, sees that you turned left, and decides not to bother.

You also can't go from Dumfries Place to Station Terrace without going through a bus/taxi only section. Getting to this junction from this direction is now quite unusual and unnecessary following the traffic flow changes they made a few years ago. I'm assuming you were trying to go right to head towards St David's or John Lewis car park?

The crux of the situation is that you did enter a bus lane and, if you receive a fine, that's what it's going to be for.

Video. You may want to up the video quality

The sign should be further back and also should Ideally be on the right hand side not the left of the road

Agree with you that the sign should 100% be further back - but unless you had a car/bus blocking the giant text on the floor I'm not sure you're going to be able to get away with it.

You can definitely see it says BUS LANE with enough of a headsup to change lane before arriving at that point.

I guess I will just have to suck it up if I get a fine through the door..

Cardiff council are so sneaky with these road fines. It's like it's the only way they can make money.

I don't usually go this way only if I'm using the bike. It's the way I commute to work on the bike not car.

The only reason I used this road on the weekend was because I was marking in the main city multistorey. God knows why they made that a bus only lane as it's the road you need to head down to get to the big carpark!!

They really do make some stupid road decisions in this city

What’s the blue sign on the left right at the start before the row of buses?

Probably no waiting as there is an ibis hotel on the left then some residents buildings also on the left which need access.

The coaches on the left you always get them there as that is coaches for people are are headlining in the arena (. Usually sleep on coaches )

I think, frustratingly, it seems to be fairly common now. I lived in Birmingham for 14 years and it seemed that every year the city was having more daft decisions made. It took about 10 years for them to rework Paradise Circus in the city centre, Colmore road had a few 'surprise' bus lanes added at one point and it was basically a right of passage to get a fine at some point.
