Local councils should be banished for stealing from the public

There is a council office not to far from where I work where the apparently department that issues these are. And also the complaints team.

I'll show them.the video

Although these council pcn teams really don't like speaking to the public..they are a horrible breed

If I get a notification I'll try my luck with them . If it's not successful I'll pay the £35 reduced rate .. I'd rather complain over the phone though or face to face than the stupid website appeal process

That's if i get a letter.

I think, frustratingly, it seems to be fairly common now. I lived in Birmingham for 14 years and it seemed that every year the city was having more daft decisions made. It took about 10 years for them to rework Paradise Circus in the city centre, Colmore road had a few 'surprise' bus lanes added at one point and it was basically a right of passage to get a fine at some point.
It does seem like road planning/design is ridiculous.

Not just the layout but the constant changing of junctions to roundabouts and back again, changing lane types, confusing markings, poor pot hole repairs.

If I do get a letter and I do have to pay a fine I may take this up with a local MP and put a complaint in. As the sign should be further back and there should.be more warning tbh.

Nothing wrong with complaining about it.

Not only does the sign needs to be further back the current sign is low enough the other large cars/trucks/coaches/buses etc are tall enough to completely cover it so people in the right hand lane may not see it.

Watched the vid and they also need to put a sign on the central reservation back enough notifying of the upcoming bus lane.

Indeed, can make a pre-emptive strike ... I was there the other day and the signage is incorrect - can you complain to police & council ?

OP I'm with you on this, at best it's hard to see coming and a bit dangerous when people panic react to it, at worst it's a deliberate trap and the council should be on the hook for any accidents.

I'd be very surprised if you can talk to someone about it. It would be the busiest team ever.

If I appeal to them.. do I appeal on the basis and link them the YouTube video ?

Or take some pics ?

There should IMO be grounds for appeal on the basis that yes there is a faded bus only lane right at the last minute which is hard to read on approach because of the quality of road surface sign painting but also because the road curves around. also the only sign that appears on the road is to the left after the bus lane has started. To which point it's too late

I see a picture of road markings indicating a bus lane.

I read complaints about a possible fine for driving in a bus lane.

Admittedly, if it wasn't a bank holiday you'd have the added indication of mahoosive big buses driving in that lane.

Do people just never admit to making mistakes nowadays?

You're several steps ahead of yourself here. You've not even got a NIP in the post yet - and that's assuming you even get one.

You have just raised a point there. What if I was a driver in a car approaching that road. And there was a bus at the end of the road and maybe a taxi .that would cover the length of the road marking and you would not seen what's written on the road until you drive over it . Making it non visible to a normal road user..

then .you have the left hand sign which starts after the buslane.road markings start. Say that sign on the left was obstructed by a lorry ? You would have no idea ??

If you commute that way on the bike wouldn't you be familiar with the road layout and that's it's a bus lane?
I guess the wider implication is that it's designed in that way to trap people less familiar with the road - and that locals might clock on after one round of fines.

Wasn't there that bus gate in Bristol that generated about half a million quid because of something similar?

It is entrapment. Especially seeing as the road leads to one of Cardiff's main shopping complex and ncp multistory car parks..

Its got cash generator written all over it.

I don't usually park in this carpark as I have free parking down the bay so I tend to walk In to town if I need to

But that's not the way to get there for cars. That's very much a bus/motorcycle route now.

Traffic destined for St David's has to come from the A4160 or Tyndall Street. The only way to get to this junction is either from Station Terrace (which is now a one-way bus lane from Dumfries Place), or Bridge Street, which you have to drive past St David's to get to...

Just wait until you get something in the post. This is a huge overreaction. You went the wrong way, ended up in a bus lane. /Thread until you receive a letter.

I was in the bus lane, but its at this point i realised as there was no clear visibility in the approach to it , so when i realised i then turned left, i was in the bus lane though end the end by the lights

So, i did not turn right at the lights which is for bus's and taxis only, i turned left

How do you know the camera is only looking at the road for people turning right ? surely the whole purposes of the markings before the lights on the road are to catch people going in to the bus lane and also those turning right, so the cameras i would have thought would be catching those entering the markings for bus lane
I am of the opinion that for the purposes of the camera you are not in the bus lane until you have crossed the lights. Again in my opinion the line of sight of the camera looks to be pointing towards the area just after the traffic lights. Which would make sense, no point in taking pictures of people who haven’t broken the law.

I’m pretty sure you won’t get a fine. If you do you’ll have a good case for appeal.
