Alienware announces the AW2725DF and AW3225QF (worlds first 4k 240hz and worlds first 1440p 360hz QD-OLED monitors - launches January 2024)

The AW2725Q (27" 4k 240hz) is now available in the UK if anyone wanted 4k QD-OLED but at a smaller 27" size!

£799 (which is already great compared to the Asus and MSI versions) but you can get it down to around 715/720 if you have a Dell Advantage code.

I was quite tempted by a new 27" 4K OLED monitor.

The Dell looks like a great deal at the £800 price tag compared to MSI/ASUS's oferrings but the lack of a 3.5mm headphone/speaker out jack (or integrated speakers) is kind of putting me off the Dell/Alienware model. It seems kind of annoying/unecessary to have to also buy an eARC soundbar and lose an HDMI port just to get audio out? Is eARC a better option than a 3.5mm audio out? I guess the Dell display is cheaper enough than the MSI/ASUS models that I could probably buy a soundbar for the Alienware display for the same price?

It's also not ideal that the USB-C on it doesn't support displayport video output. Thinking about it I'm probably better off going for the Asus/MSI model for that reason alone if I want to use it with my Macbook.

The last studio drivers, no issues with black screens or anything but every so often the bottom quarter of the screen has a split second flash of white, something I saw on the AW3423DWs as well, seems to be a QD-OLED thing, it's random and can be weeks apart so likely most will miss it. It's like the controller is doing something on a condition based timer of some kind I guess rather than an issue.

Edit(
Also Alienware software is still sitting in Windows optional updates begging to be let in. No, no you can't

I've had it for a few weeks now, enjoying 4k at 27". Definitely more suited to me than the 32" size - although I'm definitely missing the higher fps I was getting at 1440p. I'll see what we get later this year with some 'standard' RGB layout monitors scheduled to be released.

I never understood wanting/needing a headphone jack (or speakers) on a monitor. Don't you just plug your headphones into your PC? Or if you're on console, most headsets have dongles that are on the console itself. I plug headphones into my PS5 controller and those have always been good.

The lack of a USB-C input for display is a bit annoying, especially cos I also work on the monitor too with my work laptop - but I just have a DP to USB-C cable running to it as I use both HDMI for my PC and for my PS5. A little annoying not to have it but when I got the monitor for 719 quid - and it would cost an extra 300-400 for the MSI/Asus versions I'm pretty happy with my choice.

Appreciate hearing your thoughts on the display. I'm set on a 27" monitor as well as I feel a 32" would be too large for working on at my desk. I currently have a 34" ultrawide but I wan't to go back to a 16:9 4K display. Might buy a second 27" monitor and return to a dual display setup at some point as I feel it's superior to the ultrawide for my workflow.

Personally I don't really like wearing headphones for extented periods. It wouldn't have bothered me a few years back when I just used my PC but these days I always have multople devices (PC, Macbook, Switch, PS5, etc) connected to my monitor so it would be inconvenient not to have the sound output change automatically with the source. It's not an issue that will affect everyone though.

Hows the RGC layout when using text/webpages/apps/etc as I've heard some folk saying OLED isn't great for that purpose?

Studio drivers are life.

16:9 is life! :p

No 21:9 is life, and I will be going back to it once a suitable QD-OLED 45" is out that is 240Hz as well

To be fair if I could get a 34-38" 5K OLED Ultrawide that could handly 4K content natively (with similar pixel density to a 27" 4K) I'd consider it!

Problem is that the density of a 4k 27" is too tiny requiring even more windows display scaling increase as that's not the near native physical size for 4K - Hence why 45" minimum is the logical size. the closer to 100% scaling, the better, and with that obviously come a decent screen size too instead of a tiny screen with dense resolution as what we currently have with current specs.

There are some coming out this year though so will see what is what by year end.

Yeah, I know that 32" is increasingly common but 27" felt like a much more appropriate size for a monitor. I did give 32" a good run for a few months but it never felt natural, even pushed all the way back on an 80cm deep desk.

Makes sense why you'd need an audio jack, I guess I hadn't thought about people not wanting headphones & also running multple devices at the same time too. I'm definitely in the 'always wearing headphones' camp!

On this monitor the text clarity is perfect. 4k at 27" is so dense for PPI that it essentially alievates the concerns about text clarity because of the sheer volume of pixels. I read PDF documents all day, can use spreadsheets, webpages, workflow applications etc. and it's all as clear as it would be an IPS monitor. 4k at 27" (for an OLED) is insanely crisp.

For gaming, I think some titles I notice the difference compared to 1440p 27" and some games less so. In some titles the UI is the thing that sticks out the most as being really detailed - but I've also been playing Assassins Creed a lot recently and that game looks incredible at 4k.

I still might swap back to 1440p at some stage but for now 4k 27" is right for me and works well for what I need.

I get that scaling would definitely be required on a 27" 4k monitor. However, I'd been told that text still tends to look sharper/smoother on a 27" 4k with scaling than a 27" 1440p monitor at native resolution due to the higher pixel density?

Have you found that isnt the case in some situations?

No issues with text at all really, I use Better cleartype tuner to remove the text fringe that exists on all current QDOLED panels and that's it.

Yup I very much miss 21.9 a lot of the time when playing a lot of games now. If 39/40" 5K 240hz qd oled launches for £1000-1500, I can see myself making the jump back especially if there is a true gsync ultimate one, adaptive/free/g sync compatible sucks donkey **** compared to true gsync. Should be able to sell the aw32 for at least £650 when that happens.

Does the AW3225QF have PBP mode? Can anyone confirm?

I'm looking to replace my Samsung G9 as it's taking up too much desk space so contemplating a 32" 4K OLED or a 34/39" Ultrawide.

Main use will be work/productivity but also some gaming now and then but having PBP is quite important

Edit: It looks like it does but not much coverage about it online, if anyone has this monitor can they share any feedback using this? Thanks

Yes both PBP and PIP in the menu - although I have not tested it
