BMW and M Power Owners

Got a thumbs up the other day from a bloke in a qashqai (I think). Sat in two lanes of traffic and he pulls up on the inside, thumbs up and mouthed "That is lovely". Hah. Never had that before in a BMW. Mustang yes, BMW nope. Thundernight metallic obviously the right colour choice!
Picked up my 2 series in that colour middle of last week, seems to attract a lot of positive comments from people.

Anyone know if there should be a leaf guard / grill either side of the scuttle panel (where the front windows edges are) on a 4 series BMW ? On my old e82 I used to have grills that would stop leafs and debris going in to the engine compartment from the top sides of the bonnet near the front window.....

They don't have them on my 4 series which is a 2018 420d coup ..
I noticed as I started seeing a lot of cobwebs forming so opened the bonet and there is quite a few leafs and bits down there. Which would not normally get down there in previous BMWs Iv owned ..

Checked with BMW they said it's not a part ,. Seems odd to remove the grill ? I'll have to make a make shift one to stop ingress of crap building up

@DJMK4 not sure what you mean. take a pic and let me compare with mine
On my old e82 and a previous bm I had these

However on my current one there is no grill so all the leafs and debris that fall will find themselves within the engine bay

I can hoover out all the crap but I'm going to need to stick a mesh covering over it

FWIW - renewed BMW Insured Warranty on our 2021 X3 M40i as we still love the car. Slight increase this year but £467 Comp with £100 excess.

@DJMK4 no "leaf catcher" on mine either

also, after having had a good look, you wouldn't be able to fit one in, as the bonnet lift mechanism and structural support sits in that recess

here's mine for comparison:

I'll double check mine in a bit

You can buy that honeycomb mesh plastic grill stuff for a tenner and cut out a template I guess I may have a go at trying to sort something on it.cheers for looking

I gave the areas a hoover out yesterday. So much.debris and crap down there

On my old e82 I'm sure this channel was used for either drainage or airflow or something

On this there is wiring and some devices in the area

Lmk how you get on

It's not on my super urgent priority list.

Next is service and I may get rear discs, pads as they will need refreshing at some point . Front discs are in great condition pads may need replacing in few months .

Has anyone done any of that preventative maintenence work on the underside of the car to ensure you don't get corrosion later in life or prolong risk of corrosion? What a decent stuff to use ? I want to try and protect the rear subframe and other elements from corrosion if possible .. however I feel this maybe best waiting until the BMW Warrenty runs out or at least until I have had it a year or so. As I don't know if it voids warrenty

Will at some point order black kidney grills and maybe a different defuser for rear

Not had much time to do anything atm work has been busy

why do you need rear discs done? each disk should last 2 pads (ie changed every 2nd pad change)
rear braking system is also under a lot less stress than the fronts, so they last longer
do the front pads really need changing? what does the OBC say?

They don't really.. just a tiny bit of corrosion. I'm probably over reacting. .

Im not sure if i can tell. I think the rears are oem.ones. the front are original BMW and are in really good nick.

I'll have to check the back ones

The milage atm on the car is only 43k now

Everything on idrive status is fine

I have the same car, but on less than half the mileage (late 2019). It's been glorious. I'm not clear on the wear though - I'd say mine looks newer but it's not significantly better than the photos I don't think?

Thoughts on this? Only 2 owners, but the wheel and seat looks a bit worn for 50k mileage?

That's priced very aggresively, well below the current market rate for an M2C of that age and mileage. I would be interested to know why.

It's missing the M2 Comfort Pack (although some of the options are selected), which will go some way to explaining why. Majority of buyers are after both the Comfort and Plus packs.

I also think it still has an existing BMW Insured Warranty policy, which is a huge plus point.

Definitely worth a look.
