Its a shame that Windows10 is coming to its end...

In the original Windows 10 thread the fanboys were condescendingly telling me to look up what Windows as a Service meant and that Windows 10 wasn't really 10 but just Windows and there would never be a Windows 11, 12, etc. strangely enough they've gone very quiet of late.

EDIT: Though some of them are permabanned now.

There'll probably be a new Windows at some point as it's a way to sell new hardware when new OS's arrive and when old OS's are retired.

I don't hold out much hope it will be any good though, we've seen the direction of travel Microsoft has been on for a while, and it's highly unlikely they will do a 180 now.

Nobody knows if we're ever going to get a Windows 12. Rumour was that instead of a Windows 12, Microsoft decided to make Windows 11 24H2 the big "update" for next few years. That turned out well.
I'm hoping there is a 12 then because I really don't like 11 and avoid it as much as possible :)

Ive just upgraded to LTSC 2021, so I should be supported till 2032 now, plus Ive gained 11gb extra space aswel.. Thankyou for letting me know about LTSC...

Did you need to do a clean install or just enter the new licence key?

Let's hope SteamOS/Bazzite continue to get meaningful development. At least that would then give Windows users a solid alternative gaming platform.
I have been looking at Bazzite

I know nothing about Linux. Time to learn I guess :)
Makes 2 of us, with all the issues with 24H2, Recall and Co-pilot which I do not want on my system its not leaving me with much choice but to look at something else which is not Windows or stick with 10 (Currently on Windows 11 23H2 and blocked 24H2)

If you're going into Linux 'raw' go with Linux Mint (Cinnamon) or Ubuntu. If you run into problems everything will be immediately solvable with a google search due to their popularity.

If you want a gaming only system try Bazzite, it's a desktop version of the Steam Deck's OS. It's new and not as mature or practical as the above mentioned distributions.

I would steer clear of Arch based distributions (EndeavourOS, Manjaro, CachyOS) until you know more about Linux.

I'd say ramming mandatory MS account logins, copilot integration, Ads and Recall up your jacksie is pretty bad. Not to mention all the weird UI decisions.

It's down to how much annoying crap you're willing to live with. They're counting on people just going along with all this tripe because they're too bone-idle to change.

But you can bypass all of it. If it was truly enforced with no workarounds, then they would be deal breakers.
To an extent, but MS can and do re-enable things, no matter how many registry tweaks or whatever other edits are made. This stuff is not going anywhere and it'll get more tedious to avoid it.

My secondary machine is dual boot with Linux nobara... Only reason I'm still on win10 is I can't get blootooth to work with my Xbox pad... It works fine wired but I 'can't even' wired pads any more.

I imagine that such messages are going to be something that'll need to get used to.....

The thing about any incoming nags in the next few months is they won't be able to entice or force a lot of 10 users to go to 11 because their machines won't be officially supported.

My mum's pc can't be upgraded, and there's no way she's buying a new pc just because ms tells her to.

I was planning on giving her my pc, but that's not w11 compatible either, but it was seeming like updates were going to be possible via enablement packages so I could do that for her, but for the latest version there's no enablement package so I'd be looking at having to do a clean install every year for her, too annoying.

So now what...
