Its a shame that Windows10 is coming to its end...

I think the look and functionality of Settings is much better than 10, the general look of the desktop and rounded corners on windows is a bit better. There's probably a couple of other things but I can't remember now I'm not sitting at the PC. :D

I don't understand why there's about 3 or 4 different 'sound' settings. ? I can never remember which settings i need to change a certain thing. The network is the same.

yeah if you are bitstreaming you have to find the one where it shows 5.1/7.1

windows 11 does seem to have menus upon menus to do what you want.
yeah is it 'properties' or 'settings' ? 'Control Panel' or 'advanced' or in sounds, just 'Sounds' Like that tells me what i need to know. I'm already on 'Sounds, i right clicked it, but then you give me a menu named 'sounds' Jeseus wept. You can get literally about 10 clicks deep before you find the settings. Wait a minute, maybe it's left cick then click the 'drop up' menu' ? It's menus, with dialogs, with more dialogs, with tabs, with buttons. It's absolutely bonkers but people seem to accept it.

It's just opinion of course and maybe I'm just used to it. Neither the 10 or 11 Settings app is great, I just happen to like the look and feel of 11's a bit more.

The cycle is complete.

The once hated Windows 10 is now the Windows people cling on to.
Pragmatic. I stayed on 7 as long as was possible and switched to 10 as a last resort.

It's a very different landscape now, Linux is in a serviceable gaming position.

Recently tried a few different distros - installed game, ran game.

It does take up more effort though, I remember a whole 20 step plan to install an old game: Star Trek BOTF, on my Steam deck which involved a lot of switching between game and desktop mode, doing stuff in the terminal (think I needed root access as well), looking up a folder, editing the shortcuts, etc...

Yes it worked in the end but It's not the ''double click, ram enter a few times, done, play'' like in windows. Once they seamlessly allow proton emulation directly on double clicking an msi or exe from the file explorer, Linux will be ready to move to from Windows.

It is... Very close though, I am having a hard time finding games I cannot get working on Linux now.

Think i'm going to have an offline machine with Pro 10 to keep things working as they are, ignoring Win10 bugs/issues, for bitlocker and video editing. Then an online PC that will mostly be for web browser use with Linux on. When i get accustomed to Linux more, maybe make the merger.

Feels like an end of an era for me. Not being to hit Win key, type a few characters, smash enter, and get the exact file/pic/vid/folder/exe i wanted within a blink really ****** me off.

I moved my old gaming PC from Windows 10 to Garuda Linux and never looked back, if I needed to play my older games. If gaming isn't a major priority then try Linux Mint. It brings back the days when your OS was YOUR OS and you can tinker as much as you want.

I'm on MacOS and Linux now, and I've been with windows since Windows 3.0 and the days when Word came on a single floppy disk.

Shame but Win 10 is nearly a decade old. Not really surprised as their software support cycle is 10 years.

If Windows 10 was MS last OS. A of number updates would have turn it into Windows 11 with bloatware in the end.

It's about subscriptions based models for all companies now.

It's not really opinion. There literally is all those menus i named, the worst being a 'sounds' menu option after i Click the sounds systray icon.

If it's not opinion, what is it? I prefer one thing out of two options and think it's a bit better, you prefer the other. Exactly the same about most things in Windows, some like things about it others don't. It may shock you but some people even think 11 is better than 10...

if not opinion it's fact. I'm not talking about your or my preference. I talking about the plethora menu options when trying to configure sound.

Exactly, I'm not trying to present facts or hard data, just that I like one thing over another. I'm talking about what I am saying, not anyone else, just for clarity.
