@Rawr - thanks for the suggestions. My case is already partially soundproofed (dark base pro 901) and I’m aware that once you add more soundproofing… you generally get less airflow and more thermal insulation… which means louder case fans.
But yes, I haven’t really thought about swapping the case… it’s something I could think about.
I have tried moving the PC around (under and to the side of my desk) and it was possibly because my brain was having a rager but this didn’t really make a difference, although I didn’t try this with the Zotac card (I wasn’t happy with it regardless so I didn’t see the point).
From memory, I could undervolt the other cards to silence, but not the Zotac. It may just be selective memory though.
And just like all other ‘minor life problems’, the more you try to deal with them, the more you reinforce to your brain that there is a problem that much be dealt with and it becomes a ‘bigger problem’… sort of a counter-intuitive ‘viscous circle’!
‘Dealing with it’, at this point for me, probably is just accepting that I can’t get on with it (right now) at least and moving on. It’s just super disappointing as I went through a similar thing with 4090s… they were terrible with whine / faulty fans and in the end I just gave up.
@Personality+ thanks for the suggestion, I’ve tried noise cancelling headphones already as I own a pair, as well as a gaming headset with a mic (Razer Blackshark?).
That comes with the downsides of the relative discomfort of having them sat on your head plus the ear pressure of the noise cancellation. Plus I find that I get irritated thinking “grr why do I have to wear these” - that’s a me problem though.
I did consider trying out the Apple AirPod Maxes as those are supposed to be very comfortable to wear for long periods… but it feels like I’m just bleeding money with that kind of spend to fix this problem. Might be a next step.
In summary, I am trying…!
