Gamers, What's Your Audio Set Up?

Two new audio toys today, well one new and one old; bought the Fosi Audio K7 and Beyerdynamic TYGR 300R headphones.

The Fosi K7 really ticks the box of that hope I raised late last-year. I feel that if someone just wants a single DAC/AMP for music & gaming then this could be the new de-facto answer, particularly in the UK. Hell even if you don't need a mic input this thing is still compelling. Obviously if you need the software, or virtual surround then the Creative Sound Blaster G8 is a great choice. Anyway this afternoon I did a lot of A-B testing alongside my Fiio K5 Pro and iFi Zen CAN & DAC Signature stack and whilst the latter is better for music the improvement is very marginal. I doubt there is anything around the £200 mark which this thing can't compete with. And then it has mic input with some very wonderfully implemented EQ & mic gain controls. I did notice that the main volume wheel is quirky, as it goes from 0-64, but I have to run it at levels that are higher than I expected (sometimes up-to half-way). I don't listen to audio that loud so wonder if the scale used isn't linear. The design and build quality is very impressive. All metal construction that is easily on par with anything I own from Fiio, or iFi. On the PS5 Pro this thing is flawless, not that I necessarily expected otherwise. I've been playing a lot of The Division 2 recently and very occasionally would get some funny sound behaviour on my Sound Blaster GC7 (sound drop-outs etc.). I thought that might just be the game, however the K7 didn't skip a beat today so I'm wondering if that was the case. Certainly with this particular combo details and soundstage are fantastic.

I did own the TYGR's before, but sold them when I did a headphones clear-out a few years ago. Some of the new releases I was keenly awaiting; Sennheiser HD 505/550, Audio-Technica R70Xa & R50X either had somethings not quite right, or I wasn't quite there on price, so when I've saw the TYGR's back in stock decided to jump at them. My favourite Beyer and whilst I don't like them for music they do have some magic where games are concerned. Much more importantly they are lightweight, use those wonderful DT-line of spare parts and very comfy. Virtually no clamp. The non-removable cable is an unfortunate downside, but one that doesn't really bother me. It's been great fun today putting both through their paces and great hearing the TYGR's again. As a complete aside the DT 880 is the one classic Beyer I've not experienced and part of me wonders if I would love the neutrality of it. Although even the TYGR's have some of that famous Beyer treble, but really tamed and smoothed, so maybe the DT 880 would be a bit too bright for me (something that put me off the recent R50X and DT 770 Pro X releases).

Anyway the Fosi K7 is an stunning DAC/AMP. Deserves the outstanding reviews.

Thanks for the steer there mrk -- very much appreciated.

I'll do a little bit of research on some units, to find one with with the best performance I can get, at dimensions that will be a good fit for my cramped desk.
For a monitor you could do what I did which is get a tv stand vesa mount pole.

A pole with a vesa mount, weighted at the bottom and put this behind the desk.

This means the monitor floats above your desk with no stand giving you lots of space.

Search FITUEYES 19-42 inch TV stand on Rainforest to see what it means. Transformed my desk and limited space.

Nice tip there Jenz -- many thanks for that. I'll check that out.

This maybe something that might suit your needs,

You can pledge here,

Next batch of delevies deliveries due in April, £130 + £10 shipping, pretty amazing for the price, gaming orientated DAC/AMP with 2.1w (2100mW) power on the balanced out and 600mW on the single ended, that will power practically any headphone you throw at it competently.

It's crazy what you can get for your money today in terms of power and sound quality, really makes me question the value or my higher end gear.
Now out of kick starter.

I grabbed one off amazon and so far I'm loving it

Fair enough, I haven't owned one.

I will say this when I bought the GC7 last summer it was bit of an imperfect stop-gap solution and it did pretty well all things considered even if I will replace it with the K7 moving forward. Feels good to have options and the K7 and G8 both recently being released. I suppose there is the Schiit Gunnr too which looks good, but I'm loathed to support Shiit when they don't really offer proper UK retail channels for it.

Yes I bought the g8, used it for almost a month and returned it as soon as the k7 was freely available.

Software issues, or something else?

I was kinda tempted to get one, but the lack of bluetooth app support makes it more difficult to use for console gaming. One of the things the GC7 is very good at - most important settings can be adjusted using the buttons on the unit itself. Also as someone (slowly) moving more and more towards Linux; Windows-only drivers are a pain.

got some edifier mr4s and honestly not really that pleased with them. my partner has the r1280t set which to me sound markedly better, more immersive and musical. even with her setup using onboard sound as a source and mine using a asus xonar soundcard (which sounds lovely through dt770s). im not sure how much i believe in break in but i hope they do somewhat, they just don't seem to resolve well. meh

interesting thanks, ill try the eq adjustments suggested.

Just bumped into this video from GadgetryTech on Youtube covering the new 'Audio Focus' Feature in the new PlayStation System Software update that released yesterday (also included the return of the classic Retro PlayStation themes). Seems an interesting feature, which expands on what Dolby Atmos for Headphones does on Xbox with its compression options. Might be useful for some and given it kind of relates to previous PS5/PS5 Pro USB audio discussions I thought I would post it here. It only works when you are connected via USB, as per 3D audio.

Audio Focus

Audio focus increases immersion by providing presets to amplify soft sounds to meet your hearing preferences, ensuring a clearer audio experience when using headphones or headsets. This feature supports broader accessibility in audio experiences.

When the audio focus setting is turned on, you can choose from a range of preset options which makes it easier to distinguish sounds like in-game character dialogue, subtle sound effects such as footsteps and rustling grass, as well as voices in party chats for a more immersive gaming experience.

Using a 5.1 setup in my living room with a Denon receiver. It’s on an LG CX.

Anyone have any experience with an LG CX to a receivers through arc?
Have to put an adapter on the arc bit due to the to not outputting DTS.

Getting a decent chunk of delay off my PC which is annoying at times

Boop the horn snoot??

My KEF Q300 lasted ~12 years before the cone dent defect (design flaw) started to bother me and I wanted something more special. I fully expect these to last me twice as long, if not forever given how they sound and filling that "special" criteria as well.
