The ‘Spec me a mower’ thread (was “Cordless mower - is this decent?”)

I've got a few Makita 18v LXT tools, including two 5a batteries. So I'm thinking about going for one of their range.

The batteries aren't cheap though, so if I need more than 2 to cover the front and back lawns, then it becomes pretty pricey.
We've got one of the Makita ones that uses 2 batteries, around this time of year they seem to do an offer where if you buy the mower with a set of batteries you can get a freebie via redemption - when we bought ours one of the options was a second pair of 5amp batteries.

It's done well for the last few years, just have to be a little careful of using it when the grass is both long and damp.

I bought an Erbauer set of cordless mower and strimmer about 6 years ago and still going strong.
2 x 18v 5amp batteries came with it and they’re still working well and also fit my Erbauer multi tool that I got gifted at Xmas.

Very tempted by this, did you get it?
Yes I did.

I've used it a few times now.
No problem in recommending it.
Ì was pleasantly surprised with how well made it is & well thought out in its design. What I thought might seem a bit plastic & flimsy is really not.
Very quick to recharge the battery & I've cut some really long grass & it had no problem.
The handle on the bag is slightly awkward as it's hinged, rather than fixed, but I knew that from the reviews.
The bag is definitely the worst part of it as its quality doesn't match the mower. It fills it well, but I can definitely see having to buy a new one before the mower packs up.
I'm definitely very happy with it overall.

I recently bought a Makita LM001GZ 40V. I spent ages weighing it up against various other brands and other Makita models. I went for this one because it's much lighter than the Makita 18v/36v versions at 25KG and more powerful, I wanted to get clsoe to petrol power as my lawn is thick. You can store it vertically too which is great.

It's currently on offer for £699 and you can claim a free 4Ah battery*. You'd need a charger, e.g., the DC40RA which is the better 40V charger if you don't have one.

* You have to fill in a claim form online after you've received it, sending a photo of the barcode on the cardboard box and the serial number of the product (inside the battery component) and they annoyingly take about 30 days to send it, but it's no mow May so that's fine!

I got it from its- https://its.co.uk/pd/makita-lm001gz...propelled-48cm-lawnmower-body-_maklm001gz.htm

I have a Bosch Rotak 36V one. Had it about 4 or 5 years now. I'll never go back to corded or petrol.

Am still using this one with the same batteries that came with it :)
But it getting on it last legs now due to my own fault as i ran it over a large piece of metal in the lawn i didn't see last year which snapped the rear main motor/blade mount which is part of the plastic chassis

looking for a replacement for my somewhat ancient petrol mower,

it was nothing flash or fancy but looking for a decent replacement ideally self propelled petrol powered

not a huge garden but enough that i'll happily spend £300 or so on a decent mower

suggestions pelase?

currently eyeing up some of the fast and the furious esque hyundai stuff

I’ve a mountfield petrol mower that hasn’t put a foot wrong in 8 years.
Also have a Hyundai petrol leaf blower and chainsaw, and their stuff is excellent for the price.

As per the below topic.....
Be aware you will have to restart it every time you let go of the blade handle.
when i looked at petrol mowers a few weeks ago, Mountfield has some great offers on.

That looks similar to mine. It's a 43cm one. I think it was 430 model number, not made anymore. Battery still going strong. I could do with giving the blade a sharpen, or putting a new one in.

EDIT: Actually I checked other day while sharpening the blade, it's a 410 Ergoflex.

EGO LM1903E-SP 56v is the one I have
This is the one I've just bought. There are a few reviews on YouTube, one where the guy had only had it for a short while and initially raved about it but then in later videos he said it's utterly rubbish in wet conditions but I've seen others where someone is actually mowing in the tipping rain and he says it's decent.

No idea how long delivery will take, hopefully not too long.

I've never mowed in the rain, but I've mowed wet grass without issue - that said it was more "dewy" grass than actually sodden grass. Let me know how you get on!

I never cut grass if it's sodden, unless I have to due to length.
Get a wide brush or the back of a rake, and drag it along the grass, it'll knock all the water off the grass onto the soil. Give it half a day, then the top should be dry enough to cut.

I have no intention of mowing in the wet, I'm just repeating what was said in a review.
