Lightspeed Broadband

Does anyone know what happens with Lightspeed once you’re at the end of your contact in regards to price? I have Lightspeed, Gigaclear and Virgin FTTP (formerly UPP) all available here. I’ve seen that Gigaclear and Virgin both increase prices massively once out of contract (£19 p/m to £45 for example) but I don’t know if Lightspeed do the same. I’m currently with Zen FTTC and am paying the same price I have been for over a decade but it doesn’t look like Openreach with be bringing their FTTP here for at least 18 months

pretty much the same as any other ISP, you can re-contract at the new customer price.

For me that meant I’m actually paying less than I did under my first 2 years with them. IIRC I’ve got no in contract rises either.

From what I have heard, they are very good at renewal time. And yes, they don't have any in contract rises.

Speaking of Lightspeed. Have you noticed any packet loss lately? I've set up BQM and it seems there is a lot of it.

Thanks

BQM looks awful on my Lightspeed connection for some reason. Packet loss and 20ms latency, where in reality my ping is 8-12ms and zero packet loss.

I get the same 20ms. Packet loss indeed is horrible. Have you spoken to them?

Here is mine

I am with Lightspeed no issues, was looking at possibly moving so checking to see what was available, and noticed they have gone to the Eero routers for all their packages, guessing they have gone back to the separate ONT as currently have the Nokia router where the fibre goes into rather than via ONT.

But other than notified outages never had a problem always get 1gb up and down, and a decent price, and do pay for the static IP as well, a nice option to have.

You’ll have to ask really nicely and see if you can get an Eero if you resign, they have wifi 7 unlike the Nokia unit.

For 1gb they were miles cheaper than any Openreach ISP I could go with at the time I re-contracted.

Was there a price increase if you didn’t re-contract? My options are Lightspeed and Gigaclear who say that after the contract period the price for the package I’m looking at increases from £22p/m to £57p/m. At least they tell you that before you sign up!

I don’t recall to be honest.

The standard monthly price for 1gb was £5 lower when I came to re-contract. There is a bit more competition about around here these days. I can get FTTP from 2 alt nets and Openreach.

I recontacted under a new customer offer - half price for a year and then the normal price for the second year (I think - it was Black Friday offers).

My original contract had 6 months half price for something like that on it as well.

From what I have seen, they will generally give you new offers to keep you onboard. I think I have around 6 months left until I find out.

12 months in my connection has been faultless. Been doing 80-115TiB of bandwidth a month recently, no issues.

The new Eero looks a good option. But I run all my own hardware so not too bothered personally.

Found this on their website

“At the end of your contract, we'll carry on providing you with service unless you let us know otherwise. You'll automatically be moved to the equivalent standard package and pricing that is available at the time your contract ends, unless you sign up to a new contract for which different pricing applies.”

To me that seems to imply that you’ll be charged whatever they’re selling your equivalent package to new customers minus any new customer discounts. Or am I reading that wrong?

Hello everyone I just wanted to say I went with Lighspeed witht the feedback on this forum however they have been atrocious. They advertised a eero pro 7 router and refused to send it. Without my knowledge or consent they put me on an old contract even after I signed with them on May 21st during the eero period. They now will not let me get throught to the cancellations team. I have attached the pictures of communication, I am so dissapointed that its come to this. Does anyone have any idea how I can press for the correct router. They have given the adtran one which is terrible and doesnt hold a wifi connection. I am on 1gb a month as 4 of us work from home. The point is im paying for that service with the eero router and I am not getting it.

Update: Issue Resolved – Eero Pro 7 Being Sent

Hi everyone,
Just wanted to provide an update in case it's helpful for anyone else.

After a lot of back and forth and escalating the issue, I’ve now received confirmation from Lightspeed that they’re sending me the Eero Pro 7 router I was originally expecting. They admitted that there had been a failure in communication on their part, and after a proper investigation by their senior team, they’ve agreed to honour what was advertised when I signed up on May 21st.

It shouldn’t have taken this much effort to get sorted, and the process was honestly exhausting—especially not being able to reach the cancellations team and being provided with the Adtran router, which didn’t work well at all in my home setup. But I will say, once it was escalated properly, the response and resolution were handled much more professionally.

I’m relieved it’s now sorted, and I’ll update again once the Eero arrives and I’ve had some time to test it. If anyone else is in the same situation, feel free to message me—happy to share the steps I took to get it resolved.

I see they've had a little price cut this week. £26.99 for 500mb. The temptation to switch ISPs after over 20 years grows stronger....
