EV general discussion

Soz, came too soon.

What's the longest range EV currently on the market? Don't care about price / badge / whatever, but my employer has given us the option of SS leases (the ones I've looked at are hilariously overpriced so far) so might consider an EV. Home charging isn't an option atm so I'd need to keep the faff down as much as possible.

Also, what's that app called where people can rent out their own chargers? I seem to recall @Journey suggesting it before.

Cheers :)

Mercedes EQS maybe.

Mercedes EQS maybe.

Cheers. Yeah seems to be that, but this car will be doing moon mileage in all weather conditions and driven in London daily, so I need something cheap and disposable ideally.

Thanks! Model 3s seem to be ridiculous value atm. Might hafta go have a look on the weekend.

The new Merc CLA has a supposed range of 480+ miles, think it starts around 45k point. At the moment it has a potential major issue that it will only work on 800v or above fast chargers, and as far as I know I've not seen anyone test one.

To be fair, I still use ABRP very occasionally when towing but that’s a bit of an edge case. It needs a bit more forward thinking as not all chargers can accommodate a car towing a large trailer.

The inbuilt sat nav isn’t clever enough to realise you might not want to charge in a multistory car park with a large trailer on the back yet…

I was obsessed with the likes of ABRP when I 1st got the car, after the 1st long journey the apps all got binned. The charging network is pretty good now, plus the nav in the ID7 is pretty good at giving you alternatives. I do try and stick to Tesla SC's where i can, after that Ionity, purely because of reliability and speed.

Cheap and disposable with long range is a bit of a task.

BYD Seal maybe, around 300 mile range, might get higher if doing a lot of low speed city driving. Just looked on my SS scheme and it would be £440 nett for 25,000 miles and that's as high as my scheme lets you go. Does include insurance, maintenance, tyres, breakdown etc. A 25k mile EQS 450+ AMG Premium is £971....

There's Zap-Home (ZapMap owners), Co-Charger, JustPark (London centric for parking but also charging) and BookMyCharge (think this one is either dead or dying). I use the first two.

What I like about this video, not the guy who rambles on a bit about coolant, is you get to see details of the car other reviews don't show.

yes interesting that he says some of the mess (long term maintenance liability) under the bonnet is due to the shared nature of the platform , which is true of upcoming CLA platform,
versus the pure neue-klasse 3er, but maybe they will regret that with the likes of Starmer vacillating on year zero.

for heavy duty London mileage workhorse isn't the kia nero the ev to go for, I'd read these are popular taxis explaining some of the high mileage examples on AT,
and wondered how you can determine if an ev's been abused in that way.

Looks like Polestar have listened and are in the process of rolling out a new Software update 4.2.3 which fixes the majority of the outstanding niggly issues that have been present.

Hopefully that should appear in the next few days, but to be honest so far I've been really very very pleased with the car, the odd software issue hasn't detracted from the way it drives and performs.

Same. Just over 2 months in and it’s one of the best cars I’ve had.

I put a card in a few weeks back in anticipation of this update. It’s not the easiest of places to get a micro sd card in to, bring a torch!
I have heard its a bit of a challenge to insert it into the slot, first challenge will be remembering where i put the card I was going to use though

BYD finally launched the Seagull (Dolphin Surf here) in the UK.

Sounds like its going to land with another strong 0% PCP/PCH offering from BYD at ~£200-220 per month (nothing upfront) to go against the cheaper and more expensive cars in the similar size class.
