Indoor exercise bike

Like others, I can really recommend Peloton. Clearly the bikes aren't cheap, although I managed to snag a V3 standard bike on eBay which was in immaculate condition for just over £500.

If it's leveled correctly, it shouldn't be noisy and as someone else has said, the variety, even for the same class types, is great, as each instructor approaches it differently.

I'm on a 13W streak and do 3 rides per week, although admittedly, I'm not that varied in the class types (I do the 45 min music rides). Wearing a Garmin watch for heart rate tracking, the platform is saying I'm burning .c 700 calories per ride.

I'm finding the weight loss quite slow vs running 5k to 8k 3x a week, but my fitness has certainly improved, my clothes are fitting better and I'm getting a lot of comments. I can only assume the weight loss in terms of weighing scale is slow due to muscle vs fat loss between running and stationary cycling.

It varies per person but I’d don’t think you’ll be burning 700 calories on a 45 min ride. More like 450 ish

I don't have a Pelaton, just a basic standard spin bike. It says I do about 30kph when pedalling (take that with a pinch of salt). I do 45 minutes most mornings, this morning my apple watch said I burned 415kcal, but I usually aim for about 8kcal per minute.

Peloton user here, love it. It is expensive but if you are into it and use it all the time then money well spent. I join every power Zone Challenges and do 4 rides a week, I get email on Monday if I did not complete my challenge for the team :P

This is why I have no money! I know it is good hardware but £1,599 is pretty expensive and I don't know if I can justify it. Is there a maker that does a similar thing but is less pricey?

And then the monthly £39/month subs so yes it is not for everyone.

I always see peloton boke on FB market place, I only ever used other spin bikes at gym spin class and the peloton is so smooth and stable in comparison. I had tested a lot of ebay stuff and they are a joke, may as well do jumping jacks on the spot instead.

I've been looking at this one. Not too cheap not too expensive.

Try it? Looks like fulfilled by Amazon so return should be simple, full function need membership? To display cadence and info need to watch ads? Reviews are always interesting to read.

Yeah, I never know how much faith you can put into calories estimations - seems to vary from platform to platform. It's fairly high intensity 45 min rides though, my current output is ~520kj, apparently it requires more than 1kj of energy for 1kj of mechanical movement due to the body not being 100% efficient.

I work on 600 calories per hour of cycling based off road biking with a power meter. With getting blood tests, its as accurate as you're going to get

For that kind of money mate, you can definitely pick up a Peloton bike second hand. I paid £516 for mine (with the V3 screen) on eBay and I've seen others go at that kind of price. It was in immaculate condition (as you would expect for a stationary bike unless it's been abused).

I obviously appreciate the subscription on top but for me, it's absolutely worth it. The encouragement from the instructor, the variety of classes and features means I'm pushing myself and wanting to get on the bike rather than it becoming on expensive clothes horse.

The bike you linked to though does look similar in design to the Peloton and it looks to have wide feet which is good for having a stable bike.

Hope you find something that works for you!

Probably to late to this thread, but i would highly recommend the Zwift Ride, not the cheapest but ive really been enjoying mine, and the gameification of exercise that the zwift platform brings makes exercise so much more enjoyable, at least for me.

That does look good.

I'm waiting for Prime day on Tuesday to see if there is a sale before I buy anything.

I'm really tempted by this. Currently have a Peloton bike and been using it for a couple of years now, but I do like the idea of Zwift. Will need to find someone with it so I can try it out before committing.

I'll probably get a zwift ride once by wattbike pro dies which it probably never will, it's built like a tank.

Well I finally ordered an exercise bike. I went with a cheap one as I'll be using my Apple Watch to track my workouts and I don't know how much I'll actually use it. I'll have it set up on Friday afternoon so that'll be exciting.
