Virgin Media Discussion Thread

I'm stuck in an Airbnb for the week and using the Basic ADSL service for the first time in over 10 years and oh my god how bad is being stuck at a 30mb flakey download. We all moan about our high speed connections and how much they cost, but I can't imagine what it's like not having a choice.

30mb sounds nice, before VM come here I was stuck with with a 18/5 connection.

Check the price for new customers, either online or via discount sites. Phone up, askk for that, if they don't give you it, go through with your 30 day cancellation notice. They will get in touch to offer you the deal. Did it the past 4 renewals.
This is the way.

Playing the cancellation dance has got us a much better deal the last 3 times now.

This may be a daft question but do VM use specific f connectors?
I need to replace the connection of one of the cables which got damaged during some work over the weekend whilst digging up the driveway.

Cable is fine but the connector is damaged

Will any generic f connector do the job?

Its quite a old cable so guessing RG6
Option1
You could get away with CF100's+barrel from screwfix, the outer diameter of RG6 is about 6.5mm, buy a tube of silicone push one end through the tube of silicone connect together and pull back incasing the fix inside the tube full of silicone. But I wouldn't do that, this will cause problems and at minimum you need a proper cable stripper.
Option2
The proper way to do it is with a gel splice kit and the following if the cable is cut.

option3
Suck it up and call virgin!

A Virgin no-fault call out is less than the price of the compression tool so if you just have one connector to fix I'd go with that

The official VM connectors are yellow Cabelcon compression connectors

I use them but they are not that cheap last time I got mine.

My contract is due to end on 15 July 2025. So Should I wait until the 15th of June and go through with the cancellation? Or can I start the ball rolling now?

You have to give them 30 days notice of cancellation however there's no harm in contacting them. I have recently renewed and contacted them on web chat which was easy. After the price increase I was originally going to be on 350mb for £69 and got it reduced to £26 for 500mb without cancelling. I just let them know what I could get elsewhere and complained about what they are offering new customers compared to existing.

Just noticed this on my account, I know it was mentioned before that VM will honour Volt but is good to see it confirmed in a way -

Your Volt benefits

Status: Active

We’ve noticed you’ve left your O2 contract. Don’t worry, you still have your broadband Volt benefits

This is interesting, Virgin have just sent us an email saying.
Good news we've extended your discount for 12 months. As your current discount is about to expire, we will apply the same* discounted rate for another 12 months. What this means is you'll keep enjoying our broadband solus bundle uninterrupted and at the same great price** with no fuss and no new contract.
* this relates to your main services and does not include any add-on products.
** Prices will increase every april inline with your tnc's.

This email is seperate to the one we send out near the end of your contract which will outline all your options, including options to renew your contract.

So good news but also a little confused about the contract renewal. "no new contract" in the main body of the email, but the final line referring to contract renewal.

Thoughts welcomed.

Apparently we do not have to do anything, they will automatically extend the same rate for another 12 months.

We have the transcript and will update if any funny buisness occurs.

Get ready for funny business.

Ok retensions called us tonight saying you haven't told us what you want to do!
We tried to tell the rep it's all sorted and following their email offer 'we don't need to do anything', but the rep wasn't aware of the (You've been specially selected for a 12 month extension with no contract offer) So from this we infer they are cold calling and trying to get us re-contracted.

So we doubled down and checked AGAIN with the online chat team, and they again confirmed you don't need to do anything.
Watch this space.... be careful out there.
Just an update on this, It's all gone through and they were as good as their word and extended our discount for 12 months.
They WILL NOT give you any sort of written email conformation of this process.

After our contract expired, I had a bank debit of £168 instead of the usual £92 or so. I called, they wanted to renew at £120ish to which I refused, asked them to cancel, they put me through to a customer retention department. After 15 minutes they could do no better so again, I asked to cancel.
I'm now 1 week from VM going off and no one has contacted me via email, voice nor text. I'm not bothered but just a warning to those that play the game, they may not always be following up any more.

I'm assuming you have a new provider? Virgin only offered me the better price after I had booked my new install and presumably they'd been notified of the switch.
Not yet but I'm in no rush, we all have decent 4/5g data allowances, I know the wife and kids will start moaning about all the extra channels pretty quickly though.
I have an open reach/BT socket and can get the 1gb service. Honestly though I'd have preferred Virgin to come back to me with a better offer but it is what it is, their loss if it doesn't happen

When I had my new provider up and running and cancelled virgin they contacted me twice within the last 4 days of my 30 day cancellation period. 1 was a text offering £19 a month and a call from them.

I'm glad I left them.
