The reality of Wizards in a magic school that seems to be the most dangerous place imaginable for children?
yeah, bad casting /jk. Just as well Robbie Coltrane was 8ft in real lifeCan't help thinking they decided on Nick Frost to play Hagrid in the very early stages of planning the series years ago, only for him to lose about 14 stone in the meantime. He'll have to wear a fat suit in this won't he?
I personally don't have an issue with it, I think it has some negative connotations on the storyline of the character. Until the Marauders are cast it's basically 4x white kids bullying the daylights out of the random black kid. Which is not what the whole story is about.
I would be interested to see peoples reactions on a well known black character being played by a white person though, I suspect the internet would lose their mind these days.
Pretty sure in this day and age, they can make a 4ft anorexic look 8ft and fat![]()
This is a good point, however Gambon played the role much better, so it worked out in the end.Surely his age is a bit of a concern if they want to do multiple seasons?
Look what happened with Richard Harris

Alan Rickman was perfect for the role.
What have you been smoking? He was atrocious, although not sure it was his fault - the writing/directing on the later ones was horrendous anyway in comparison to the source material.
thinking about it, in some ways going clearly different, rather than an alan rickman clone, helps distinguish the 2 apart, which may be a good thing due to this role being probably most watchedPaapa Essiedu - could work, he's not bad but arguably some of the biggest shoes to fill in terms of comparisons back to the films, so he'll need to be good
John Lithgow - not much wrong here but him being 79 seems a bit risky in terms of seeing out the entire series if it starts to drag on in terms of production
He played the role better than Richard Harris did, how's the source material, writing or directing relevant to that? He did what was asked of him and put in a far more memorable performance. What have you been smoking? Asked Dumbledore, calmly. This is a good point, however Gambon played the role much better, so it worked out in the end.
Me tooBut, seriously, looking forward to this. No pre-judgement.
Dominic McLaughlin will play the role of Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton is Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout is Ron Weasley. More than 30,000 actors auditioned for the lead roles since HBO launched an open casting call last fall. Filming is expected to begin this summer.
“After an extraordinary search led by casting directors Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann, we are delighted to announce we have found our Harry, Hermione, and Ron. The talent of these three unique actors is wonderful to behold, and we cannot wait for the world to witness their magic together onscreen. We would like to thank all the tens of thousands of children who auditioned. It’s been a real pleasure to discover the plethora of young talent out there,” said showrunner Francesca Gardiner and executive producer and director Mark Mylod in a statement.

Inb4 grown men start malding over the choice for Hermione.
Edit: HBO had to disable the comments on the Facebook post after just a couple of minutes due to the frothers.
Those lucky three have pretty much won the golden tickets of acting.
