Yeah but their costume bloke was probably banking of saving a few quid on a fat suit, and then he saw recent photos of Nick Frost and was like, oh for flips sake!.
To be fair, he was chronically obese.

This is a good point, however Gambon played the role much better, so it worked out in the end.
What have you been smoking? He was atrocious, although not sure it was his fault - the writing/directing on the later ones was horrendous anyway in comparison to the source material.
This is weird. I vaguely recall that J K Rowling tried to explain that Hermione was never explicitly Black in the books after Cursed. Child casting was announced but this is gonna be a lot harder to swallow.
Its bad enough she has allowed American cast, which she didn't for the movies, but this is just weird.
I read the books before the movies came out and imagined Snape being a white, greasy haired, sneering anti-hero, which is exactly what the author wanted. Alan Rickman was perfect for the role.

Other than age, I 100% agree. He was far, far too old for the character. But at least they seemed to age all of the group up, or it felt like they did it made very little difference.

Looked in to this, and yeah you are right.
He was 54 when it started filming and 64 by the end.
Harrys parents were supposed to only be 21 when they died, which means when Harry starts school at 11, that whole group in the same year should have been in their early 30's

Yeah that scene where he throws Harry against the wall in Goblet of Fire… wtf. It could have been the directing I suppose.
It is funny seeing how the style and direction changed over the films. I seem to recall that Harry and Ron have long ‘emo’ hair in 3 & 4.
3 (Azkaban) is odd re: lore … it starts off with Harry doing a lumos charm in his bedroom… which is an instant expulsion, no?
In terms of vibe and ‘magic’, the first film is by far away the best - a very good adaption of the book.

thinking about it, in some ways going clearly different, rather than an alan rickman clone, helps distinguish the 2 apart, which may be a good thing due to this role being probably most watched

He played the role better than Richard Harris did, how's the source material, writing or directing relevant to that? He did what was asked of him and put in a far more memorable performance.

Because it's an adaptation of the source material, and Richard Harris played the character much, much closer to the source material. The most memorable part of Gambons Dumbledore was the complete antithesis of the book character in the fourth movie and became such a meme that it's still reposted today. Again, not necessarily Gambons fault if that's what was written or directed.

Edit: HBO had to disable the comments on the Facebook post after just a couple of minutes due to the frothers.
TBF it would be far easier if every role, for every production simply had a middle age white bloke cast.
Seriously though the actors look young enough that they will be fairly convincing for the roles as they age.
Those lucky three have pretty much won the golden tickets of acting.
They have, but also hopefully they are shielded from the vitriol that will no doubt be coming from lots of people. I have no real care about the kid actors - it's a complete gamble each way I didn't think much of the original ones for the most part. Unless HBO cancel it season two haha.
I honestly don't think I'd want to be any of the kids involved in this show, I actually feel bad for them and hope they don't get negatively effected.

Not that the latter had much effect on the game from a couple of years back, still I feel there's going to be a lot of negativity on top of some big shoes to fill.
