New parts coming tomorrow, thinking of ordering a 1tb gen5 nvme drive (14000 / 13000) to replace my gen4 drive (5000 / 3000) boot drive..
Will this be a noticeable improvement for a windows drive?
I have both PCIE4 & 5. The only real noticeable differences are:
Large file transfers - when I first got the 5 drive I was amazed how quick it is to copy large files/folders
Installing games is much quicker
Unzipping large files is quicker
Boot time is slightly faster (think it's about 1 or 2 seconds or so)
There are probably a lot of other differences and things that go on behind the scenes like direct storage and quicker load screens etc, but the above 4 items are the only things I've actually noticed an appreciable difference in real time. Most people would say these differences are not worth the extra cost, but I got my PCIE5 drive very cheap on sale so it cost me no more than a PCIE4 would have at the time.
Not necessary for PCIE4.is getting an nvme with a heatsink the best idea?? for a gaming drive, is it 100% necessary or would the standard nvme be sufficient?
that's the main thing isn't it, the price differential was so small. would you have bought your pcie5 drive if it was at "normal" cost vs a pcie4 drive? Most people would say these differences are not worth the extra cost, but I got my PCIE5 drive very cheap on sale so it cost me no more than a PCIE4 would have at the time.
Or a gen 3 over gen 4 for that matter.No. You won't notice the difference between a good gen 4 and a gen 5 drive.

Haha mate, that's the normal cost. You lucky git finding one so cheapMy god I didn't realise how much they had gone up in price (just looked). No I wouldn't pay such a price difference
and quicker load screens etc
